Take two and call me in the morning…

November 16, 2012/Ryan

Okay, the ironic thing about that title is that Ryan actually does take aspirin, every day. But that isn’t what this post is about. This post is to update you on our doctor visits this week. We go months and months without seeing a doctor and then saw two in one week. Go figure.

The first was to the cardiology clinic downtown for a routine ECHO and look-see. We started by getting Ryan’s weight and height. He’s 36 inches (up from 32.5 inches in the spring) and 34 pounds (up from 31 pounds).  Seems like our boy had a growth spurt over the summer. He’s on the charts now in the one percentile for height. It’s okay though. We’ve been in the 1% category before and done just fine!

Next up was the ECHO.  For Ryan’s whole life, I’ve always laid with him on the bed for any out-patient ECHO. This time, I sat beside the bed in a chair. After a few tears, he figured out it didn’t hurt after all.

The cardiologist says the ECHO shows Ryan’s Glenn circuitry looks good and so does the left atrium where the cor membrane was cut out in April. We weren’t invited back for another four months. Whoot! Whoot!
The plan has always been to space out Ryan’s heart clinic visits to annually. We have yet to get there! A back-to-back four months might be a record for us. I’m curious to see how this winter goes… his first without a cor membrane blocking blood flow in his heart. It will be a true test of how his little body reacts to the colder weather.
TANGENT ALERT: I couldn’t help but snap this picture of him looking at baking supplies. I stopped in a kitchen supply store on our way home from the clinic. I drive through the Strip District on the way home and needed something for an upcoming event. Ryan was helping me find what I needed.

Thursday brought more tears, but for good reason this time. Ryan gets a vaccine monthly during the winter months to ward off RSV. It’s always hurt like crazy, but as he gets older the dose gets bigger and so does the pain. To make things worse he got the flu shot too. Tis the season for respiratory diseases….   that meant two shots in one leg and one in the other.

When I put him down he took tiny little steps and said, “Yegs hurt.”
Don’t worry, he’s all better now.
Two fun things before I go:
1) You can still enter the Ayala Bar giveaway sponsored by the Artisan Design Gallery until Sunday night. Go here to enter.
2) I have another giveaway coming this Monday. Stay tuned!!

I love the picture of him looking at the baking supplies! He is so darn cute…and we love him! John and I keep praying for him.
