My sister, Johanna, came to visit with her five kids. You might remember I visited her when we were homeless last month. It was great to see her again. She offered to watch the kids last night so Henry and I could have a date night.
We jumped at the chance. Literally. Up and down. With glee.
Then we ran out the door as fast as we could. We considered Paris, but with our short timeframe settled on something a little closer.
We headed to a mediterranean restaurant we saw on the way to a movie in the park the other night. It was amazing. The restaurant, not the movie. Although the movie wasn’t bad either.
Then we headed to some batting cages. I haven’t swung a bat for seven years. I think Henry swung one when I was pregnant with Ryan. You can tell we’re big baseball players.
We both started here:
I swung at 20 pitches and was lucky not to throw my back out since I didn’t connect once. It was painful for Henry to watch. He swung at 10 pitches and hit every single one. When it was my turn again Henry suggested we move down to here:
I hit all 10 pitches. Of course. 30 miles an hour is like having your dad lob a ball at you. I found my niche – little league baseball. The kid’s bat we found in that cage was a better fit for me too.
On Henry’s turn he moved up to here:
And connected with most the pitches. Seriously. I have the most awesome husband. Why isn’t he getting millions playing for the big leagues?
Feeling pretty confident, for my last at bat, I tried the whopping 45 mph cage.
I didn’t hit every pitch but the ones I did connect with were pretty solid. This was definitely my sweet spot. I think if I’d tried to go back up to the 50 mph I probably could’ve hit some with my new bat. But we chose instead to go across the street and try our hand at another sport.

Sport might be a stretch since there’s no running or jumping, but let’s just pretend for now it’s a sport.

I almost got roped into holding Humpty Dumpty all night, but was able to get out of it.
I can’t remember the last time we played putt-putt. We did pretty good though. Here’s Henry after one of his holes-in-one.

It was awesome to be out as a couple again. For Henry to be home early enough to enjoy an active date. To not have to pay a babysitter or feed the kids dinner or put them to bed. Can’t wait til we find a local sitter so we can get back to our weekly dates.
What’s the last date you went on?

Jim and I had last weekend “kid free”, so Friday night we went out to eat and to a movie. We usually have one free weekend a month, but he isn’t always home for them, so we take advantage when we can. We went to a very nice restaurant (he got steak, I got seafood stuffed tilapia), then followed it up with the last of the Harry Potter series. So sad to see a good thing end, but our night was fun! Glad to see you and Henry having such a good time exploring Pittsburgh! I hope to see you soon!!

P.S. I never realized till the last pic how much Henry looks like Matt Damon…

Kim and I went to The Melting Pot a few weeks back. It was nice, but I think I would have preferred mini putt putt.

@Richelle – that is the second time this week someone told him he looks like Matt Damon. Of course, I’ve been telling him for years. Now I forget until I watch a Damon movie and then I think how much Matt reminds me of Henry. 🙂

A few weekends ago we went to The Palm for dinner to use a gift card and then after stuffing ourselves with steak and a cocktail we went bathing suit shopping–and I found one!
