It’s the first week of May. I have six weeks until the kids are home for the summer. Six weeks to plan out what we’ll be working on for those short 11 weeks…. so far I ruled out learning a new language. We all know this isn’t going to happen so I’m just going to laugh at myself for even considering it and move on. I’m getting good at lowering the bar.

I’m still considering signing the girls up for swim team. It’s a huge commitment, but a valuable life skill. I have an irrational fear of my kids drowning so it helps them and me at the same time. I obviously can’t give up multitasking.

I’m also having a small panic attack because I realize there are only six weeks left for me to complete any project I want to attempt before September. I always think summer will be a great time to tackle all sorts of things and then realize summer is a break for the kids not for me. I’m not falling into this trap again. The only goals I will make for this summer will be kid-related. Period.

Last week I worked on Ryan’s scrapbook. In December when I pulled everything up to the first floor from the basement storage room to start Piper’s book, I figured I’d work on the baby books once a month until they were done. Um…. I worked on them one day – – a day in which I didn’t complete any pages because I was busy sorting the gazillion photos I still had to do for Ryan. Last Monday I decided I was going to set everything up and work on the book until I was done. I took Thursday and Friday and worked on them about 1/2 a day each and voila!  Ryan’s book is as done as I can get it right now. I did pages for all the pictures I had printed out… all the way through the beginning of December. I also ordered the rest of December through his first birthday. Aaaaahhhhh!  It feels good to be this close to completing his baby book.  I’ll be ready to start Piper’s in June when nothing will get done…. so really September when she’s almost a year old. Yikes!

I’ve also been working this month on the hill when the weather allows taking an hour here and there to dig up old roots on the top tier, pull weeds, and prune back ornamental grass and other perennials that probably should’ve been pruned in November. Oh well.  I was feeling really good about everything because I typically wait until May and start behind the 8 ball, until the rains of this week hit….. it rained almost everyday. By Friday, the weeds that were almost non-existant on Monday had grown inches… inches I tell you, with all the natural watering. I’m not giving up hope though…. I’ll work a few afternoons this week to clear off the other half of the top tier. It will be all ready for the last two weeks in May when I can start planting some lavender, russian sage, rug juniper and a butterfly bush.

Just when I thought there was no one else to pick up after, I see that Woody’s been leaving his shoes all over the place too. If he doesn’t straighten up, I’m sending him to a museum in Japan. Or maybe the YARD SALE PILE!

May promises to be a completely insane month. Our schedule is filled to the max and it doesn’t include any of the end-of-year projects or paperwork or legwork for mom, but everything on it so far must happen. Each one is important in its own right so we will press on. I was smart and didn’t sign up as a homeroom mom this year, so I’m hoping May will be a little calmer.. one can only hope, right?

Okay, big things on the horizon today. They involve laundry and the post office. Big things, people, big things. See ya!

Way to go on the baby book for Ryan! It can’t be easy with your busy house, and Pipers constant need for feed.
Tee hee I had to laugh at Woody’s boot. Thanks for the chuckle.
    Have a great day Leighann

Welcome to Mayhem May. This is teacher appreciation week, I have to make lunch for 5 teachers at my teens school, Chicken Parm with noodles and a side salad, and an icebox strawberry cake (cool whip, fresh strawberrys, gramcrackers all layered and topped off with some melted chocolate).
I dropped yellow roses for Sailor’s teacher (it graduation picture day for her also) I will be making cookies and punch for the Elm teachers.

Tomorrow is Sailor’s 5th birthday, our 14 year anniversarry, and Grandpa Ralph’s Birthday (he passed away but we remeber him on his day) Sailor has graduation this friday. The 29th I have to work my son’s graduation dinner and set up the 3 (girls)who are graduating tables and then help serve and clean up.

This past weekend my husband ran sound for the local homeschoolers annual play and tha was a rough 3 days. I work(volenteer) the chruch cafe’s on Fridays and since we have all the local homeshoolers that use our church and gym we are always packed those days…

I think its 5th sunday this month so thats another meal I need to plan out. So I for one will be glad when this month is gone and we can settle down to a summer lull..We are planning archery club for Josiah martial arts for the whole family (once a week at the local community center) and lots of evening trips to the beach.

My oldest has his last final today and will move home today and tomorrow, the middle one graduated in December and is now working and my youngest is exempt from finals and his last day of school is May 16th. I’m ok with everyone being home etc and not having homework or projects for school ect but having to feed 3 boys plus friends is way too expensive for me. Geez where do they put all the food?
