A few notes…

December 5, 2012/Family
Just a few notes to clue you in to how real life happens around here:
1. My smoke detector is sensitive so it isn’t out of the ordinary for it to go off while I’m cooking. I was baking bacon the other day and it went off even though there wasn’t smoke or a fire. Go figure. (I found this way on Pinterest and don’t think I’ll ever go back). It going off is so common Ryan grabbed a dish towel and said, “I got it!”
2. My kids are not only starting to act like animals, they’re also starting to look like them.

3. I’m working desperately to finish my manuscript in time to bring you an engrossing memoir during the first quarter of of next year. It’s zapping my creativity for other things (this blog!!), stealing my time, and generally getting in the way of life. It’s also leaving me a bit raw. Going through the experience once was enough… rehashing it several times it painstaking. Putting up this tree that decorated Ryan’s hospital room his first year of life had me choked up this weekend. It brought back so many feelings I didn’t know were there… who knew.
4. This was last week… Tuesday, I think. Our first sticking snow (although we had flurries twice already) even though it melted by lunch time. Can’t wait to see how much snow we get this year!

5. I’d lose my head if it weren’t attached: I found the Thanksgiving game I put on top of the fridge to take with us to our family’s Thanksgiving meal. I found it the Monday after Thanksgiving.
6. Similarly: I burned two sets of grilled cheese on Monday because I was multi-tasking. I’d do great on the first side, flip them, then totally forget they were there. Third time was a charm because I forced myself to do nothing else but stand next to the pan and cook. Lunch was a little late, the house a little smokey and the kids very hungry!
7. On a very positive and happy note: Ryan seems to be completely potty trained. He’s been doing pretty well during the days (unless he gets side-tracked by cartoons and doesn’t want to hit the pause button) but I’d kept him in diapers during the night. He woke up most mornings dry (waking up only once on his own during the night to pee) but I kept reusing his diapers until the tabs ripped off because I had them. I finally decided to stop…. he’s been out of them two weeks without incident. Several nights he’s even slept straight through til morning without a potty break much to my delight at getting a full night’s sleep.
Okay, make me feel human. What’s been going on in your house the past week or so?

Beyond busy. Maveric had an eye appt with a specialist and it went great. We have an appt tomorrow with the Nureo sergeon at the new childrens hosp in Orlando. Savannah had her 6 month ENT follow up for her ear surgery, it went great. I had my back appt, its confusing not to just see the same doctor for everything back related.

Trying to get ready for the holidays and find time to get the Christmas cards I bought last year out this year.

Thinking I need to make some comfort food (Your cabbage and bacon)

Think its too funny with the fire alarm since hubbys is always saying when the fire alarm goes off its time for dinner.

Your kids are soo cute. I, too, set the smoke alarm off often. Mine isn’t really that sensitive though, it’s mainly because I burn the food. I also forget what I’m doing halfway through & will discover some task halfway finished hours later and only then remember I was trying to complete it. Can’t wait to see you this weekend. Katie

    My human moment(s) this week:
-The same load of laundry has been in the washing machine 3 times because I start it as I leave for work and forget to dry it when I get home.
-I kept waking up to something tickling my face in the night (UGH) and finally figured out that my pillowcase was wrong-side out.
    – I opened the back end of the car and a (new) bag of shredded cheddar cheese came out. I haven’t been to the grocery store in ages so I am really, really not sure how long it had been there.
-I learned out of necessity how to make my own dishwasher soap from things on hand.

    How’s that for human?!
