40-day Easter Journey – Day 12

March 2, 2015/Faith

Slide02

Jesus is the Light of the World

John 8:12 Again therefore Jesus spoke to them saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.”

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

Proverbs 4:19 “But the path of the wicked is like a dark night. They trip and fall over what they cannot see.”

Have you ever tripped over something walking around in the dark at night? Or stubbed your toe? That’s the worst! The Bible tells us that those who don’t believe in Christ live in darkness. They stumble around in life wondering why they keep tripping over things. Christ tells us in John 8 that He is the light of the world. He lights up our darkest night to show us the way to eternal life. Does this mean we will have carefree days? Or never mess up, or never make poor decisions? Certainly not! But it does tell us that Christ and God’s word opens our eyes to living a life with Him – one that truly satisfies in a world that so often leaves us disappointed.

Activity: Flashlight illumination

1. Go as a group into a dark room like a bathroom or a closet.

2. Turn off all the lights so it’s pitch black.

3. Explain how walking around without God’s light is like walking around in a dark room.

4. Turn the flashlight on. Explain how God’s spirit in us lights our way.
