Weekend at the Lake, Part Two

August 6, 2010/Family

Saturday morning we woke up to rain. But that didn’t stop us. We hung out at the house and had a lazy breakfast then headed out when the rain dried up. It was cool and cloudy, but was a welcomed reprieve from the 100 plus days we’ve been having and made for pretty deserted lake traffic.

We started off with a little swim so our kids could learn to trust their life jackets.

Natalie jumped right in excited to practice her newfound skill of swimming.

It took Ains a minute or two to decide to get in the water, but once she did she had a good time.

Then the kids got on the tube with ‘the big guy’. That’s what they called him. I’m not making it up.

Ainsley preferred watching from the safety of the boat.

The giant and I got on. This is not the traditional way of riding a tube with another adult, but we were afraid Henry’s weight vs. mine would upset the applecart before we even got started. I don’t recommend doing this either, since when we flew off, I hit Henry’s body first before hitting the water and was lucky not to break my nose… but it was fun while we were on it!

After tubing, Natalie tried knee-boarding. She did a pretty good job and was very excited to do it. I can’t stand how cute her face is in this picture.

We did water skiing, more knee-boarding, a potty break, and lunch. And then Big Bertha made another appearance. This time the mamas took a try. And, ohmygosh, we couldn’t stop laughing. I’ve never been tubing and I will definitely do it again. I don’t know if you can tell from this picture, but I am holding on to the side laughing uncontrollably.

Ainsley hit her head on the dock at lunchtime so she spent the rest of the day curled on my lap licking her wounds. We are grateful it was nothing serious.

The other kids took another turn on the tube

Then the dads went one more time, but somehow I didn’t get a picture of them. It was almost as fun watching them as it was riding. We laughed and laughed watching them hold on and fall off. They were troopers.

At dusk, we headed back to the marina. It was cold, and rain again and the kids (and adults) were hungry for dinner. After a warm dinner, we headed home and the kids all slept hard. The adults played some games before heading to bed as well. We had so much fun at the lake house. Thanks, guys!

This reminds me of home. I lived off a river and we would go tubing and skiing all the time. Those were some good times! 🙂

Side note: I was thinking of you guys and hoping you were safe and your new house didn’t get hit by all those crazy trees falling from the storm!
