So far, so good…

March 27, 2009/Ryan
Ryan had a very good day. Mommy had a very good day.
Ryan was extubated around noon today and as of 9 p.m. (when I left) he was doing great breathing on his own. There is still a chance that he could tucker out in the next day or two, but so far, he is doing the best he has ever done on his own. We praise God for his progress.
Additionally, I got some good alone time with Ryan since Marmi (my mother in law) took the girls to her house for the night. She specifically did this so I could spend the day with him watching how he was progressing on his own. She knew I needed this emotionally and was gracious enough to meet that need. I can’t thank her enough.
The day got even better when Ryan decided to stay awake for an hour and let me play with him during that time. I was also able to see him awake several more times during the day and participate in bathing him with the night nurse. This is the first bath I’ve given him – really more like a wipe down since it was really a sponge bath. But, still a nice thing for me to be able to do.
Here are a few pictures of Ryan hanging out.
Enjoying his pacifier

Hanging out in his ‘nest’. I love how he crosses his legs.
Looking at mommy…
Yes, I took this picture of us and while it’s silly, I l.o.v.e. it! Ryan actually looks like he is posing.

What sweet pictures of your little man! He looks so healthy and his eyes look so alert, you would never know what a fight he’s had on his hands. I am continually calling on the name of Jesus to bring healing to Ryan,to give wisdom to your doctors and to sustain you through the days and weeks ahead until you can bring Ryan home!

It must feel SO good to Ryan to have that thing out of his throat! Praise God! He looks like he’s happy about it. (And his mommy looks happy too!).

What great news. Can’t wait to hear more.

We are so happy Ryan was able to be extubated. We pray he continues to transition well to breathing on his own! We’re so happy you got to spend some one-on-one time with him, Leighann. Love the new pics!

The pic of you and him is absolutely adorable! I was thinking about you guys last night as I watched ER. If you didn’t get to watch it, you must. It just gave so much encouragement for all the heart babies/children. I’m sure Ryan will get to that point 🙂

So glad to hear he’s doing good with the extubation as well.

I have never met you, but your story reached me by an email prayer request… I have followed your blog for several weeks now, and feel like I am beginning to get to know you and your precious family. Our church (in Virginia) is also praying for your family and your little man. I am so happy for you all that he is able to breathe on his own now!!! Praise the Lord. We will continue to pray for you. Hang in there!!!

What a blessign that Marmi could fill your need and you were able to have that time alone with Ryan. He looks so amazingly healthy. You would never know what he has been through. That is truly that hand of our God on his life!
    Continued prayers for you all,
    love~

Too cute… love how he crosses his legs too. Almost like he is saying “well I am going to be here for awhile today, so I am going to chill and get comfortable”. LOL

He is getting bigger. And alert.

Praise GOD for his progress. So happy to hear these steps.

    God Bless.
