Shopping again. {Stitch Fix #7}

November 11, 2014/Style

I’ll tell you what. If there’s one thing girls like to do, other than going to the bathroom in packs, is going shopping together. I’ve found you ladies are the funnest to shop with!  I signed up for one more fall/winter Stitch Fix and am sooo glad I did. My stylist, Catherine, sent me a box that is so spot on Henry actually suggested keeping all of it. I can’t justify the whole sha-bang (although you do get a 25% discount for buying everything), so I’m going to ask you guys to vote.  In my fix note, I specifically asked for a blouse to wear with my lace shorts, a plaid shirt to bring me into this season, and colored jeans to liven things up a bit around here. This is what I got:

#1. Burgundy stretchy jeans and a matching plaid shirt. I’m totally into burgundy for the fall and winter… it goes perfectly with changing leaves, the Christmas season, and Valentines day (pair with a pretty black top and heels for a nice Valentine’s date??)

#2. I can also pair the plaid shirt with my jeans and cowboy boots. I love that my stylist chose a burgundy and navy plaid. I adore a good camel, black and red mix, but that’s EVERYWHERE it seems. I’ve really been getting more into navy so I was happy to see this shirt in my box.

#3. A pretty floral peasant top. While this is a cute accent piece, I’m leaning toward sending it back. I really like the colors so agh!  What to do?? It’s a little big (which is so in right now) but I feel like I have a few pieces that are already this style so don’t want to get too many flowy peasant tops. Am I thinking right on this?

#4. A quilted jacket – My stylist suggested in her notes that I wear this while running errands in our cold ‘Burgh. (she’s from San Fran and actually mentioned how cold it is in Pittsburgh!) It’s super trendy, but I’m also considering returning this one. I have several cute jackets that I already run around town in and while I don’t have a casual one like this, how many jackets can one girl have? I do like that it’s grey on the bodice with khaki green sleeves. Gah! I’m talking myself into it. Haha! Can you see now why I need girlfriends to help me narrow this box down?

#5. A black whispy blouse. I saved my favorite and most controversial for last. And in all fairness, it’s hard to get a good picture of the blouse. It is made out of that whispy (for lack of a better word) material that needs a cami underneath, although it isn’t completely see-through. It has three-quarter-length sleeves. It has a few buttons down the front but isn’t a complete button down. This works really well for me because true button-down blouses don’t tend to fall great on my chest and look even worse when I tuck them in. This gives me the look of a button down and the function of a blouse. It also has a pocket over each breast and little tab accents on the shoulders. All that to say, it has a lot of pizazz while still being a very classic shape and fit.

I told Catherine I wanted to winterize my lace shorts with tights and booties. Here’s my quandary. The two people I’ve asked about this aren’t sure about the tights with the lace shorts. And even more, I’m unsure if I can pull this outfit off….. as in, even if you are someone who doesn’t mind lace shorts in the winter – – can a 37-year-old-mom-of-four wear this?

Okay, ignore all the clutter in the background of the pictures and tell me what you think.

If you haven’t tried Stitch Fix, it’s super fun. I’ll even vote on your outfits if you blog or Facebook them!!  I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again – – the more refined I make my notes and profile, the better my boxes are. My first two fixes were hit or miss. My last few have been much more my personality even if I wouldn’t have thought to pull the item from the rack myself.

That’s it from me… discuss!

Hey! I love YOU getting these boxes cuz I would *never* sign up for something like that! I just get whatever my parents and I find at thrift stores or the huge Loudoun Hospital Rummage that we volunteer at each fall. God truly provides for us at that sale year after year after year; truly a blessing. PLUS having my parents here is SO much fun!!

So first, I’d love to know the price of each piece. Does stitch fix NOT want you to share that? I think they’d get MORE customers if you shared what the prices were instead of us all assuming these prices are *outrageous*!!

That said, I do like the peasant blouse, but I’d like to see the other blouses you already HAVE to be able to compare and make an informed decision. And I’m afraid if it feels too big on you, you won’t tend to wear it.

I love, love, love the coat … but again, would love pics of what else you HAVE already so I can make informed decision on IF you *should* be wearing the other coats out in public!

And the lace shorts … you can *totally* pull them off, but I would wear them with knee high boots instead. If you going to do “hot pants” then you have to do “hot boots”!!

Do you get what I mean?! You say what you like & don’t like about each piece, but WE can’t see the whole picture cuz you aren’t taking pics of what you already HAVE in that category.

Maybe we would vote to keep one of the new pieces and let one of your old ones go.

So that’s my thoughts; loved the entertainment for the morning!

    Hugs, Joellyn

Hey Joellyn! Great to hear from you…. thanks for all the feedback. I didn’t post all the stuff I already own because that would just be a crazy long post, but I can assure you, the black military jacket with ribbon trim, gray moto coat, and denim jacket I own are presentable! All new in the past 2 years. Everyone agrees with you that I should go with high boots with the lace shorts. Who knew?! I have black high boots so I’ll switch it out to that. And as far as pricing… I don’t list because I wanted people to choose based on how things look on me, not on price. But I’m happy to tell cost…. Stitch Fix doesn’t sponsor these posts so they haven’t ever given me guidelines on what to or not to share…. I post these because I like seeing what everyone has to say. They get the most comments believe it or not.
The shirts were all $58 each, sometimes they are $48 and sometimes if they’re really special they’re more, but I tend not to buy over that price point so my stylists send me stuff in the $48 range. The jeans were $68 (I’ve gotten pants as high as $88 in my box. Again, have never paid that so that’s probably why this time they gave me less expensive ones). The coat was $88. I may have splurged if I needed it, but that’s out of my league for a “want” item instead of a need item. So there’s the pricing. I used to think their pricing was outrageous and then I started going to the mall to see what I could find and have found they are right around the pricing or well below the stores I tend to gravitate to stylewise so now I’m not so shocked by the prices. They are more expensive than Marshalls but with my babies at home, I’m having a hard time getting out. For this time in my life, Stitch Fix is working for me. Hope this helps!

Keep the burgundy jeans, plaid shirt, coat (that coat is awesome and looks fantastic on you), and the black blouse. You can totally pull off the dressy outfit, and like Joellyn said above, it needs tall boots to make the whole outfit come together. You have great legs and need to show them off!

Here is my two cents, keep the burgundy pants n plaid shirt n the last dressy outfit. I didn’t like the quilted coat or the floral top. Love you bunches ! I’ll see you at thanksgiving !

Totally agree with Wendy. Did not care for the peasant blouse. Boots would improve the dressy outfit. Great find.

i LOVE the jacket. AND you can totally pull off the lace shorts! with or without that black top!

  • Sherrie / November 11, 2014 / Reply

OK, here’s my opinion: Definitely keep the plaid shirt and burgundy jeans. Send the floral peasant top back. The jacket is super cute, but if you already have several cute jackets that you like, I’d send it back also instead of cluttering my closet with similar items (makes room for more later, you know?). The black shirt is cute and could go with different things to make completely different looks, so I think I’d keep it also. I can’t comment a lot on the lace shorts because they aren’t my style, but they do look nice on you and I agree with the group – taller boots would make that outfit pop. Nice choices she sent you to work with in this fix! You have a keeper stylist!

You can totally pull off the shorts. Show off those legs! 🙂
Id send back the peasant top and jacket.
    🙂

Stitch Fix seems like so much fun. Thank you for sharing 🙂
Love the burgundy jeans and the plaid top! The peasant top isn’t screaming keep me. The jacket is really flattering but I think you’d make the best judgment call based on the other jackets you own. You can definitely pull off the shorts – your legs are so in shape! I would suggest black lace shorts or darker color for winter but that’s just me…
    Enjoy your new wardrobe pieces!

For the lace shorts, I think thicker tights or even leggins would look really good. Not sure I like the look with the thin pantyhose. Love the plaid top and pants. Not sure on the jacket, looks more like a shirt than a jacket in the picture. Think the peasant top is too big, do like the colors, but looks to big on you.

I hope you kept the burgundy pants! And you look amazing in those lace shorts. 🙂 xoxo
