Random Act of Kindness

January 31, 2009/Miscellaneous

I love Chick-Fil-A. Today, I was at the mall and got a sweet tea – a real treat for me as I don’t drink caffeine much. I wasn’t really that hungry so didn’t get anything to eat. About a half hour later, I was in the car and ready for lunch. I pulled into another Chick-Fil-A and ordered a sandwich. When I got the window I said, “Okay, so I have a really strange request. I was just at the mall a little while ago and got a sweet tea. Is there anyway I can get a refill?”

The guy taking my money said, “Well, we really don’t do that through the drive-through…”
I could tell he wasn’t completely against giving me the refill and said, “I didn’t think so (chuckle). I wasn’t hungry when I was getting the tea and here I am a half hour later getting a sandwich.”  Pause for effect….
He looked around and then said, “Do you have the tea right there?”
“Yep” I said quickly.
“Ok, give it to me and I’ll refill it for you.” he said.
“You’re awesome!” I said handing him my cup still half full of ice and the tiniest bit of tea in the bottom.
Now don’t go getting my CFA man in trouble. Don’t go asking all over the place if you can get a refill like the lady on the internet got. He was just trying to be nice. And let me tell you… I greatly appreciate it. Baby boy greatly appreciates it. And, my husband and children greatly appreciate a newly pepped up mom…

    AWE.SOME.!!!
    You go, girl!

And Leighann, I’d email this to you if there was a link, but Honey, please understand that I wanted to not post about baby Kaitlyn because I knew you might be out there, reading. The truth is, this can be a rough road. We have a mom in our support group that has a 16 year old now (and I would so bold the words 16 YEAR-OLD if I knew anything about html, or computers in general…). But, to quote HOPE’s Mom (oh yes, it is!), “It might be a rough road. But at least it’s a road.” And I wish I could send you the picture her mom sent to me for our CHD Awareness Day project that we are working on…Stunning, i think was the word that came to mind. That girl is stunning. And she’s DRIVING! And her mama’s worried about THAT idea now, not so much her heart…although the worry of that never ends, I think.

So, we grieve and we live. And we hope. Because that’s what we have.

And Baby, I can’t wait to meet your little one, too. Because he’s going to change the world. I know this.

Sorry. But I *heartU* already – not just for the hearts we seem to have in common, but also for the appreciation of a good ol’ cuppa caffeine that we have in common, too!

    And AMEN to THAT!
    😉
