Just for mommies…

January 31, 2009/Miscellaneous

Yesterday I was talking with my sister and cousin and the things we do as moms. We all admitted to sneaking soda and/or food when the kids weren’t looking. We laughed as we described shoving the rest of cookies in our mouth when we hear the kids coming in to the room; hiding food in the door of our car and taking small bites so they can’t see from the backseat, or making excuses like ‘this is for big people.’ We all cited the reason as not wanting to develop the bad habits in our children that we choose to have as adults. I told them that recently instead of hiding my food, I’ve been telling my kids I need it for my upset belly (morning sickness) and it usually pacifies them.

So here’s the big question, is this universal?  What do you hide from your kids or tell them to fend them off from your illicit snacking.

On Sat night we always have homemade pizza and soda. I sneak a glass of soda in while I make the pizza — i feel i am entitled. I first however send the older kids up to get their showers so they can’t see me drinking soda before dinner. Ha Ha

i hide all sugary things from adyn, but since the “holiday’s” (which is like, what?, from holloween through New year’s) i myself have had serious sugar cravings. adyn usually goes into orbit 1/2 hour after consuming sugar. i usually grab it after he’s down for a nap, in the other room, or sleeping at night. If he calls me while i’m sneaking a bite, i try not to talk funny because he always knows the difference. sometimes he can smell it on my breath!! you would think this would force me to eat healthy, just like i am trying to teach him, but so far, no such luck!

You did say you were going to blog about that conversation didn’t you!?
Ok here’s my most recent. We all went out for Mexican including my mother. The kids had soda twice over the weekend and I was feeling really guilty about that, so we 4 Brennans ordered water! Am I clear…Mexican food with H20! unheard of…everyone knows you need COKE. But my mom didn’t hear the discussion, so of course she ordered a COKE. At my last few bites of chalupa, I signed to mom “This would taste a lot better with a Coke” to which she replied “Why didn’t you order one? Oh no you all ordered water, why didn’t you tell me?” …”Mooooommmm, I didn’t want to torture the kids drinking soda so I’m gonna drink yours when they aren’t looking!” -Bonni
