National Museum Day!

September 6, 2012/Family

Our family loves museums…. I’m sure you know since I take you with us on our frequent visits!! One thing we were spoiled with in Washington, DC was free entrance to all the Smithsonian Museums. We’d go down to the mall often to take run into a museum for an afternoon. Pre-kids it was a great way to see a lot for very little money. The first time we went to a museum in Pittsburgh and realized it would cost over $18 per adult and $11 per child to get in we nearly fainted. After picking each other up off the floor we promptly bought a family pass so we could feel like we were getting in free on any return trip. (It’s been well worth it in case you’re wondering)

For those not living near a Smithsonian Museum with free entrance, I wanted to let you in on a little event sponsored by the Smithsonian Magazine called National Museum Day. It’s when museums across the country open their doors free to the public. There is a caveat – you have to have a ticket and that ticket only lets 2 people in. So for a family of four, two of you will have to pay admission. However, this is a great idea for a date with one of your children or your spouse.

This year it’s on Saturday, September 29. You can get your tickets here.

So glad to be Washingtonian. I am boggled when I have to pay for a museum.
