Fourth of July 2013

July 5, 2013/Family

We headed downtown with Henry’s cousin and his family yesterday to celebrate Independence Day Pittsburgh style. We waited in line for about a half-hour to take ONE turn on the moonbounce slide. The rule was one at a time and I wasn’t sure Ryan would go up by himself.

Boy, did he prove me wrong. He scaled it with no problem and bounced down the slide with glee. He immediately said he wanted to go again.

Instead we found a spot in the grass and spent about a gazillion dollars on vendor food for dinner.

Then we tried to figure out where to watch the fireworks from. We walked and walked. And found a spot by the river by PNC Park. Then it started to drizzle. Agh! Five minutes before the fireworks. But we stuck it out and the rain went away and the fireworks started like they should. At which point we realized we were at the wrong vantage point to be able to see them well. So we walked back over Roger Clemente bridge and watched them from there… perfect view.

Ryan had been whimpering on and off all afternoon about fireworks being scary. I told him I would hold him and he didn’t have to watch. They started while we were walking over the bridge. He started saying, “Oooh, they’re sparkly. Look at the red one. I love fireworks!” And that was that. He watched the rest of the show.

And that was the fourth. Now off to a water park to ward of the heat.
