Field Trip

May 3, 2009/Ryan

Ryan had his first outpatient ECHO on Friday. It was also my first day to venture out of the house. I forgot how long it takes to get an infant ready and packed up to go. I haven’t packed a diaper bag since the fall (when Ainsley potty trained) and Ryan’s bag is a little different.

Feeding pump in travel bag – check
Extra NG tube (just in case) – check
Extra feeding bag – check
Skin prep, tape, lubricant – check
Milk in bottle – check
Breast pump and ALL that goes with it – check
Oh yeah, and diapers, wipes, extra outfit, bottle of water… I carried three bags out the door, just for Ryan and me. It’s craziness I tell you.
The girls spent the day at a friend’s house and because Ryan was due to eat before we left, I arrived an hour early to give him his feeds. It was a hectic morning. I felt okay until I looked in the rear view mirror and realized I forgot to put makeup on.  Oh drats. I’m gonna have to make a check list of things to do before leaving the house!
Dr. D says Ryan’s heart is looking good. (sidenote: my mom asked if everything looked normal and I chuckled. “As normal as a heart with a missing ventricle, two super venae cavas, a cortriatriatum membrane, a central shunt, small pulmonary arteries, merged pulmonary veins…oh you get the picture, can look.”) The cor membrane is still flaccid and showing no signs of becoming rigid again. This is expected to happen in time, but time is what we are trying to buy here. We need to get to August with enough functional blood flow. So far, so good.

Glad to hear Ryan is doing well and is beginning to get settled into his new environment. With time, Natalie and Ainsley will get settled as well. I’m sure it is quite an adjustment for all of you. We’re continuing to pray for Ryan’s health as well as a smooth transition to home.

Oh wow…what a project to get out of the house. Of course, how exciting that you are home…and have to do that, right? So glad to hear about the good report..we are praying for you all the time.

That is great news. And your comment about your mom made me giggle too.

How does he like the car rides??

You got a lot of luggage there with you. And I’m sure you have no need for make-up!

    God bless!
