Horsin’ Around.

June 19, 2012/Uncategorized
Henry’s coworker, Tammy, invited the girls up to meet her horse Annie this past weekend. It’s every little girl’s dream come true. Natalie wore her cowboy hat for the occasion.
This is Tammy and Annie.

Annie boards at a horse farm that’s been in existence since 1863…. That would be when Abraham Lincoln was president. Farmer Dale (who left before I could get a picture) is the fifth generation to run the farm. His grandson is the seventh generation to be live on the farm. SEVENTH! This fascinates me.  He taught us the difference between quarter horses, thoroughbreds, paints and pintos.
He shared about a tornado that flattened the farm in the 1980s. How when an Amish man that Dale’s dad raised Clydesdales for found out he told the family to have the barn foundations ready. He brought 200 men to rebuild the barns of which there are at least three. It gave me goosebumps to think of how wonderful community is…. and reminds me how much our friends came around us when Ryan was born and just recently in the hospital.
Tammy taught the girls how to inspect and clean shoes before and after a ride.

How to brush the horse…

And the difference between the Western and English saddle.
Natalie had so much fun she didn’t want to get off.
Tammy led Annie for a few laps while Natalie practiced with the reigns. Then Natalie got to be in charge while Tammy just walked beside them.

This poor boy just watched.

Ainsley was nervous at first saying she wanted to get off before she was even a quarter of the way around the track…

But pretty soon found her stride and didn’t want to give up the saddle.
Ryan got hot and tired of standing. I grabbed his potty from the trunk (oh the joys of potty training) for him to use as a seat.

Natalie tried to wait patiently for another turn.
Thank you, Miss Tammy, for such a fun day!!
