There’s been no change since yesterday in Ryan’s status. He continues to have wet lungs. The team’s still working get the fluid off while he’s being kept comfortable (totally sedated) on the vent.   I thought I’d answer some of the common questions I’m getting through email:

Where are you staying?
Henry arrived home in Pittsburgh yesterday, but was staying with a friend while he was here with us. He and I would tag team being at the hospital so neither of us was cooped up too much. I’m staying in Ryan’s hospital room. With him sedated and vented it’s probably not as much of a concern, but I want one of us here if he manages to wake up and freak out.

How are the girls?
The girls miss their mommy but seem to be holding it together. Henry and I are trying to figure out when to bring them here for a short visit. Possibly this weekend. Maybe next.

How are you?
I’m holding up. I’d like to get this recovery thing moving along but as a veteran of CICU long-term stays, know that things will happen as Ryan is ready for them, not a moment sooner. My anxiety level post-op was the worst on Monday with Ryan’s desats, his intubation, and Henry leaving. At this point I’ve settled a bit. With all the quiet time, I’m getting a ton of reading done and talking to the many folks who are checking on me.

How long will you be there?
We have no idea. We are back to planning day-to-day. A good guess is at least this week and maybe most of next week, possibly longer. But believe me, you will find out as we do.

What do you need?
Right now I’m doing well. I have a friend’s Nook, the Internet, my Bible, paper, a computer, and lots of nurse friends and IRL friends calling and stopping by. Before Henry left I stockpiled healthy snacks and toiletries. In Pittsburgh, they will need meals. Our church has been alerted and hopefully will be able to fill that need next week.

Thank you for all your prayers, comments, and emails.

    Dear Leighann,

John and I have been praying for you and for Ryan…and we are there with you in our hearts, and can’t stop thinking of you and the little guy. We are hoping this will all be over soon and that you and your sweet boy can go home.

I know this must be so very hard. I am sorry that you are going through this again. I am sure it is all too familiar and scary. But I know God will give you strength day by day…and He is watching over you both.

I will be watching for updates. Please know we will continue to hold you up in prayer.

    Love, Linda
