Dottie and Adam chose to do curling for their reception instead of dancing. It’s unique and gave all of us guests a chance to see what one of Adam’s (and soon to be Dottie’s) favorite activities is. Adam’s been on a team for over a year now, and Dottie just signed up for a co-ed team.

This picture is of the club. I wanted you to see what the atmosphere is like. There’s a little kitchen area to the right off screen, then this seating area. Another group was there before we got there and they had snacks out. It seems like a fun place to hang out, eat, and curl together.

The rink itself is very cold. Duh! There’s ice!  It’s recommended to wear rubber-soled shoes (to insulate you when standing on the ice), a coat, and even gloves if you want. Ryan borrowed a hat from a nice girl at the wedding.

Adam gave us a brief overview of how to play the game…

Ryan wanted to throw a stone. He begged to do it over and over… he cried when I told him he was too little to play (the stones are 45 pounds each). Natalie also was sad when she couldn’t play. I don’t have a picture although we let her throw a stone or two before the owner told us everyone under 12 had to come off the ice. Boo!

This is what you’re supposed to look like when you throw:

This is me in the starting block… or whatever it’s called in curling.
Me, sweeping (my dad took these pictures of me) Incidentally, we now have proof that Adam can mop the floors… something I’ll have to remind Dottie about. You really have to dig into the sweeping.

Bonni and Reid at the club.

We had a ton of fun. The best part is we can know what Dottie and Adam are talking about should we ever analyze one of their curling matches. Yay!
