Confessions of a SAHM

May 5, 2011/Confessions of a SAHM

My sister confessed to me the other day, “I have this reoccurring dream that I’m at the store and I realized I’ve left my kids at home. I think, ‘How could I’ve forgotten my kids? What kind of mom forgets her kids?’ And then I’m stressed the entire time trying to get through the store without letting anyone see how panicked I am because I don’t want them to know my kids are home alone and I worry that something’s going to happen before I can get there. It’s a terrible dream.”

“Oh, I know what you mean,” I said. “I have a terrible dream too. But mine is that I’m at the store with my kids and I’m thinking, ‘How could’ve I brought my kids to the store with me? What kind of mom brings her kids?’ And then I’m stressed the entire time trying to get through the store without letting anyone see how panicked I am because I don’t want them to know my kids are driving me absolutely insane and I worry that I might do something to them before I can get out of there. It’s a terrible *dream*!”

Does it count I almost left my kid at the store! My oldest was 12 but had severe ADHD issues. I went to the bank inside the store and told him to STAND HERE! Do not move period. I banked, walked off did my shopping not a care in the world. Started to walk out the store and I hear MOM!! It dawns on me and I get that sinking feeling crap…I can not even understand how in the world I forgot him let alone him do what I told him to in the first place. He likes to remind me from time to time and I like to remind him he was 12 geezzzz

I have had that dream (the first one!) many, many times through the years! And we live about 20 minutes outside of town, so I just knew the authorities would be waiting for me! Always woke up panicked. Now it seems surreal that in another year, I will be able to actually leave one or two at home and that they will be able to take care of themselves!! Where have the years gone??? So glad to hear that I’m not the only one dreaming about leaving my kids behind!

yeah, that second “dream” is more like a nightmare. 3 kids in the supermarket, not so much fun…plus, there is no room in the cart anyways. L.O.V.E. that comment “you sure have your hands full”. duh! Love having my hands full though, God is good!

That is hilarious and so true, I spend the entire time trying to get in an out of the store as quick as possible, hoping and praying that my 4 yr old and 2 year old won’t cause such a ruckus I have to leave the store.
