Ryan is sitting pretty in the HKU recovering from his heart cath this afternoon. We ended up not starting until almost noon and after not being able to get access through the groin, the Interventionist had to get access through the liver. Because there is a risk of the liver bleeding, we are being held overnight for observation. Otherwise, this has been Ryan’s best cath yet.

He showed a little hesitation but no crying or whimpering from the time we pulled up to the hospital up until now. We told him there wouldn’t be any ouches and he actually believed us!  Last time he was put under with a gas mask he panicked and cried and cried. This time we told him to act like he was blowing up a balloon which is what he did until he passed out on daddy’s lap. The next thing he remembers is probably the red popsicle he ate in the recovery unit.

His heart looks really good – also the best they’ve seen. Lung pressures are down into acceptable ranges and all his circuitry is working beautifully. His pulmonary arteries although still smaller than normal have grown and didn’t need any ballooning (whoot whoot). He also didn’t have any collaterals worth talking about which have been a problem in the past. So really we’re looking at the best function we’ve had so far.

He’s a little sore but overall in good spirits. He’s eating mac n cheese and watching Cars. So he’s pretty much in little boy heaven!  We hope to skip town tomorrow. Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts today.

Yippee…Woo hoo! And of course… HALLELUJAH!!! John and I were just praying about his heart cath this morning, and I am so glad it went well! Thank you Lord!

I am smiling at the thought of him eating macaroni and cheese and watching Cars!

Hope he will continue to do well overnight…and that you will be able to fly the coop tomorrow!
