Are you kidding me?

September 18, 2009/Natalie

Sorry for the prolific posting, but I need to remember this…

Natalie told me she kissed a boy in her class today. His name is Parker. After getting over my initial shock, I asked her if Parker kissed her and she kissed him back or if she kissed him and he kissed her back. She said, “I kissed him. He said it was disgusting.” I’m not surprised… by either statement!
Help! It’s the second week of school. She’s in kindergarten. She told me she kissed him because she loves him. We hug and kiss a lot in our house; we say ‘I love you’ a lot too. How do you explain to a 5 year old that we don’t go around kissing everyone we love? Β For now I told her she needs to save kisses for people in her family. But this problem is not going away. It’s just starting, and I’m in big trouble.Β

    That is too funny!

I teach prek and I always tell my students that kisses are for people we love at home and hugs are for people we love at school-I get a lot of kids at the beginning of the year that want to give me kisses, especially at naptime :).

Just wait, one of these days, he won’t think it’s disgusting!!!

Sidney did the same thing last year, although she came home telling us who she was going to marry. It changed from week to week, and then she forgot all about it for a long time. But I too had to pick my jaw up off the floor when she came in with her announcement. sigh – girls. πŸ™‚ This age it’s cute…15ish – not so cute!

I remember my son being kissed by a certain girl every day he walked into his pre-K Sunday School. Her aunt was the teacher and was horrified and did her best to stop it. I don’t see her very much now – she’s probably 18 or 19. But I’m sure she doesn’t have a problem with misplaced affections. πŸ˜‰ Just continue to explain it to her. We did that with our adopted daughter who would hug any adult she was next to when she first came home. She eventually got it and made us very happy.

HAHAHA! When I was teaching K that was a common occurance the first few weeks. It was always the girls chasing the boys too! πŸ™‚

What an outgoing little girl you have! My little one is pretty shy so far (she’s just 15 months)…I’ve been hoping for her to come out of her shyness, but maybe I should try to keep her from coming out of it!

I’m looking forward to hearing what the best way is to handle that… πŸ™‚

Have you heard of the book the “Princess and the Kiss” very cute, we read it to our girls. Pearables have some good books too.

Hmm, I have a feeling Mia will be similar to Natalie . . . Mia, at age TWO, has a crush on her friend’s brother, Sam. He’s four. You should hear how she says “Sammy”! And she gets super shy when we talk about him . . . Can I mention again that she’s TWO YEARS OLD??

SO, if you learn any tricks . . . let me know!

Okay, I know it wasn’t a kiss, BUT do you remember how you got chickenpox in Kindergarden??? Maybe it is genetics not a stage Natalie is going through. LOL Just kidding. Love ya.

ha ha… that’s great! i kissed a boy in kindergarten too! i still remember who it was. i’m pretty sure he was as enthusiastic as i was though. I think it was like.
    me: “hi”
    him: “hi”
me: “do you want to kiss?”
    him: “sure”
    (quick peck on the lips)

i only kissed him once and i didn’t kiss another boy until fourth grade so maybe there is hope for little natalie…
at least until fourth grade πŸ™‚

    love you, praying for ryan.

    :0)….

My son’s friend Luca came over for a play date yesterday and I overheard him telling Evan that during lunch that day a girl in his class told him that she wanted to marry him…….So Evan told him, “She is TOTALLY your girlfriend!”……and Luca replied, “No this is SERIOUS, Evan!!! I’m married!!”

This stuff happens all the time, especially when they first start out at school. They try and mimic the relationships they have with you at school. Thankfully, Teachers do a wonderful job at explaining how they should save their kisses for their family at home :0)

How is little Ryan doing??? I have been praying for him and you guys too :0)…..I hope he is feeling better today :0)

Ive got a kisser too. Primary love language – PHYSICAL TOUCH.
    Are you kidding?

She was kissing boys in preschool and AWANA. We told her the same thing…we only kiss people in our family. Its working. For Now.

What’s the point of a blog if not to have a place set aside to be as prolific as one wants? LOL

My daughter was about that age when I had to have the “hugs and kisses are for family, not friends” talk. It took a few reminders but she got it. Now if I could just get her to not share our entire life story in detail to everyone she meets. *rolls eyes*

We had this issue once per child – each time got a ‘congratulations, your child is normal!” – comment. I’ll ALWAYS take “normal” as the answer!

Alyson – Ryan is doing okay. He is still struggling a little. They are working to get his cocktail right. Thanks for praying and checking on him.

Our family is a very “kissy, huggy I love you” family too! My little girl did not kiss anyone when she strted school but she did play games with the boys where the boys would ty to kiss her! And then one day she got a “talking to” by her teacher because she patted a boys bottom! She got the message after that talk with her teacher and another one with me! Now she has her little admirers but she is in the boys have cooties stage now! She does however compare all boys to one boy who was in her Kinder and First grade classes. He’s a good kid so I hope her liking good boys sticks with her always!

    Praying for Ryan!
    Hugs & Prayers for all!

HAHA! I can only laugh because I have a daughter in kindergarten and she LOVES boys! I haven’t heard of her kissing any yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that soon! Good luck to both of us!

My daughters are 6 & 5 and they too have kissed a boy in school. of course we have told them time and time again kisses are for family.
They also say they are going to marry this boy or that boy. it changes each day.
I know this is just a faze but I really dont like it. but I also know I will look back and laugh at the whole thing too.
