Party Like It’s 1999!

February 22, 2010/Family
This weekend was crazy busy with birthdays and parties and people and pictures. Friday did not turn out quite the way I planned. I dropped an oxygen tank on my toe. It hurt. Badly. (And why is it when you have a bruised toe everyone and their brother accidentally steps on it?)
The castle cake I tried wouldn’t come out of the mold. I was frustrated. It’s funny how unmet expectations can sour a mood.
I looked through my cake books and found one that I have the pan for. I set about making it. I finished it in time for dinner. But then Henry was unable to make it home before the kids conked out…. I even kept them up an hour past bedtime. So we saved Ryan’s cake for Saturday.
The Birthday Boy with all his presents. My sister, Katie, made his bib. It says “King of the Crib”.
Ryan had a great time playing with the icing.
And mashing the cupcake I made especially for him.
Here is his castle puppy cake.
Saturday all of us, but one (slacker Dot), were able to get together to surprise my mom for her birthday. She thought we were gathering for Ryan’s big day, but really we wanted to celebrate her. As soon as she walked in the door Natalie said, “I know your secret, but I’m not going to tell you.” That is when she realized it was all for her.
Here is my mom opening her gifts:
And reading her cards:
And her cake:
John and Dot planned a great surprise for mom. Dot skyped in at 6 p.m. It felt like it was everyone’s birthday!! We were all so excited to see her. I mean, really, how cute beautiful is she? That is her hotel room behind her. She picked up her computer and showed us around the room.
Then we asked her what her games uniform looks like…. she showed us. So I am showing you. If you are watching the games and see someone who looks like this….
It just might be my sister!
And we all took pictures of her. I think we need to get out more. What do you think?

I don’t know how in the world she managed to talk to 13 people all at the same time.
Here is Amy showing her baby belly (due in August) to Dot:
And then she took orders for official Olympic mittens and the cutest little animal hats you have ever seen. Ken ordered a big mac. John requested a moose. She took it all down on her little hotel notepad. And I had the strangest feeling this is not the last time we will be skyping to Dot at an international location. This is just the beginning of her illustrious career!
Uncle Ken and Ryan chat.

It was an awesome day. Since Ryan’s homecoming we haven’t traveled and that includes going to see family. I loved seeing everyone and just hanging out. What did you do over the weekend?

I’m so glad to see the pictures of you all together celebrating your mom and Ryan. Wish I was there.
    We had a good time celebrating Tim’s 40th and his grandmother’s 90th.
    Ryan looks like his sisters.
    And the cakes were beautiful.
And I love reading Dot’s blog….it is so awesome that she is there! Can’t wait to spot her in the crowd of people, I’ve been wondering what she wears for a uniform.
    Miss you guys,

Happy that you had a wonderful weekend!! On Friday, I took 8 girls to get their nails done and then had a great dinner at Mama Lucia’s for my daughter’s 14th birthday. Everyone had fun!! On Saturday, hubby and I went to see Celtic Woman in Baltimore at a wonderful theater called the Hippodrome. Of course a night out couldn’t be totally without drama….15 min before concert we get a frantic call from my oldest daughter that one of the two new hamsters had escaped in the basement and was on the loose. She was crying and my youngest one was really crying as she thought the hamster would surely die that night. To make a very long story short, we came home at midnight and caught the hamster with a butterfly net!! Always something. Have a great week.

Leighann – that’s too cool about your sister – we were at the Olympics (in Vancouver) yesterday with our girls, 3 and 5. Maybe I saw here and didn’t even know!

Leighann your new look is fun! I want to go for a walk in Hobbit land! (:>)

Ryan’s pixs are so cute with his frosting and cupcake. And I love his smile.

Hey your mama is so cute…just like you. Happy belated birthday to her too.

How fun for everyone to talk to your sis and to see her on the computer. How exciting for her to be there.

The puppy cake is so cute. YOU are amazing!

We had a fun time at the George Strait and Reba concert on Friday night. It went from 7 until 11:30…can you believe it? (:>)
We had a restful Saturday at home because we had sleet and it was a good reason to stay inside. Then it cleared up by Sunday so we didn’t miss church. And I went to visit my good friend for several hours after church. So that was our weekend

    Love ya,

It is so good to see all of your family, Leighann. I’m not sure that I would recognize anyone in public except for you, your mom and Johanna (everyone else is still fixed in my mind as they were back in ’92.)

Your cakes are beautiful, and I do like your new site design.
