Lifeline…Updated with Address

Lifeline: a source of salvation in a crisis; assistance at a critical time.

Are you willing to be a starving child’s lifeline? If so, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve never highlighted a charity before and hesitated to do something like this, but couldn’t get Children’s International Lifeline out of my head all weekend.

Children’s International Lifeline was started by Arnold Lemke, a professional photographer who visited Haiti back in the 1980s (I think) on a short-term missions trip. After taking a picture of a mother holding a child and realizing as he clicked the photo that he captured the dying breath of the child, his life changed. He knew he couldn’t go back to his comparatively rich life in the United States without helping the children in Haiti.

What began as a life changing event for Mr. Lemke became a lifeline for more than 2000 children today in nine different locations in rural Haiti. Through private donations, Children’s International Lifeline operates a school for village children providing two meals a day for its students.

Additionally, Children’s International operates a school for women teaching them the art of sewing and a trade school for men teaching them the ins and outs of construction.

So what does this have to do with you? And why were they swirling about in my head all weekend? In a recent newsletter CIL informed sponsors they are in need of new stoves. The stoves they are using are old and keep breaking down. In an effort to be more efficient and better users of their money, they are interested in purchasing new stoves capable of handling the 4000 meals being cooked daily.

Here’s the thing… they don’t receive government grants. They are at the mercy of private individuals like you and me. Guess what a new stove costs. $700. That’s it. And, they need three. How cool would it be if we could help them with the purchase of these new stoves?

So here’s what I’m asking… for those who feel drawn to this project, pop a $5 check into the mail (I’ll give you the address below) with “stove project” written in the memo line. Make a difference in the life a child today. I know you won’t regret it.

Our family and our church suport CIL. every year we make love bundles to send down and we also sponsor about 10 kids.
I think it is great that you mentioned them on here. i read the newsletter and thought well that realling isnot very much for a new stove, we bought a new fridge last month and it cost us twice that much.
    thanks again
