Week One – A Recap

January 18, 2010/Ryan

So I remember:

I idealized how my days would be with Ryan home, especially with the girls in school three days a week. I envisioned lots of playing with therapy work and quiet moments together.
The reality is that I have no more time than I did before. The two hours spent traveling on the road are replaced by giving meds every two hours around the clock (except for one four hour break between noon and four p.m.), keeping almost continuous feeds going, pumping every three and half hours and taking care of the girls. Many times, I am drawing up meds or fixing Ryan’s food with the girls whining around my knees.
I hate to say I used t.v. this week as a babysitter for the girls to keep them out of my hair and happy. I typically do not let them watch more than two hours a day, many days going without, but we are in survival mode over here so I relied on it a bit more this week.
We had three appointments this week: Monday Ryan had to have his blood drawn. I took him to a lab five minutes from my house. I was gone for three hours.   Wednesday was the trip down town. We left around 6:30 a.m. and got back at 2 p.m.  Friday we went to the pediatrician and were there an unexpected 2 hours.
This coming week, we have two physical therapy appointments, a cardiology follow-up and a developmental assessment. It doesn’t seem like things are going to slow down any.
BUT… Ryan is home. I can look at him any time I want to. Hold him any time I want to. Be cooking dinner and flirting with him at the same time. Walk into the next room to say hello instead of driving 2 hours round trip to say the same thing. It’s hectic. It’s stressful. But it’s great!

Wow what a schedule and I thought my life was crazy! God is always so good about bringing things to perspective for me.

I also see that Ryan is bringing his hands together which is a HUGE developmental stage! Yay Ryan!

Bless your heart Leighann…that is a busy day! But I thank God that you are young…and like you said the rewards are getting to hold him, look at him, and kiss on him, whenever you want to.

Hopefully things will settle down a little bit. Do you have family nearby to help at all? I know when my daughter Lynnette was going through things with her daughter Anna’s health we helped out as much as we could with the other kids.

I am praying for you…and that someday soon things will be less hectic.

    Leighann,
I’m glad that Ryan is home and happy as he can be, even though there’s other things involved with appointments and all that but You’re a very strong woman and God’s with you all the way! 🙂 continuing to pray for you and your family:)

Hang in there little mama! Another transition, another change. This to shall pass!

I agree with the other posters, can someone help you at least with carpooling the girls? I know the doctor’s appointments are so important and can’t be moved. I wish they could make it easier on you and the little man.

I think you will someday look back at this time in your life and think “HOLY MOLY, I am AMAZING!” I know you are, but sometimes I think you need to tell yourself that when you look in the mirror.

Vera – My husband is amazing! I was able to go to a baby shower on Saturday and shopping (for myself and by myself) for a few hours on Monday for a mental break while he watched the kids. Now it’s back to the madness!

What a blessing to be that busy and have Ryan home. I am sure once things have settled more in to a workable pattern the days will be much smoother for everyone.
God bless you and may you have a fruitful blessed week.

I’m so glad that Ryan is home with you. It sounds busy, but you must never be bored:) The detergent worked great, expecially the load I did with a cup full;) Love you, Amanda L
