Henry and the girls were here all weekend. They gave me a reason to leave the hospital. It was good but at the same time hard. It threw me back to when we used to commute to see Ryan and I’d feel torn on days we didn’t come. It was a battle to enjoy the time outside the confines of these four walls without worrying that Ryan was awake and crying and scared. The reality is the first night we left for our pizza dinner he was sad but by the next day he accepted that he wasn’t coming and did okay with it. He’s such a sweet boy.
Saturday we drove around parts of DC I’ve never been. Having lived in and around the city for 33 years, it’s surprising how much I haven’t seen. I found so many cool things these last two and a half weeks. Perhaps I’ll do a DC – off the beaten track – post sometime. One example is Meridian Hill Park on the corner of 16th and Euclid. I told Henry I felt like I stepped into a park in Europe for the afternoon. I kept wishing Ry was with us so we could take family photos. Seriously. It’s that pretty.
So glad to have this man in my life. |
We couldn’t help ourselves. (Natalie told us she’d take our picture as long as we didn’t kiss. Then told us to kiss!) |
My cute girls. |
It’s Monday… it’s back to just Ry and I. Last week I thought maybe we’d be headed home about now. With months of ICU experience I should’ve known better. The good news is Ryan’s considerably stronger than last week. He couldn’t even sit up last Friday without shaking and his blood pressure soaring. Today he’s tired, but no longer has the shakes. We are doing PT and OT twice a day to get him playing. He’s eating a little bit more, but still not at full appetite. The biggest thing keeping us here is the fluid that’s having a party in his right lung. Our goal today is to get him moving as much as we can so he will cough up the fluid.

How wonderful to hear that you had some time with your hubby and girls. Ryan, “Keep strong little guy and you’ll get outta there, soon!!”
I am catching up tonight and read two or three of your posts. I loved seeing Ryan smiling while his sister was on the bed with him. I am so glad he is doing better. I am so thankful that the girls and Henry got to come and see you and Ryan. I know you needed that…and so did Ry.
We will continue to pray.
We’ll be coming to DC the end of this month. I like to go off the beaten path & visit places that aren’t quite as touristy. We’ll have to check this park out. Thanks for the idea!
Hope your little guy has a speedy recovery.
Brenda
