The Perfect Play Date: Decorating Christmas Cookies

December 21, 2011/kids
Ainsley wanted to do something “special.” She says this about every day. I try to explain if you do something special every day it’s no longer special. She explains to me if you bake something different every day, it’s not the same.
Friday we did something special… we baked cut-out sugar cookies in preparation for a play date that evening. What better way to spend it than being creative and getting hyped up on processed sugar?
You might remember I bought plastic bottles a few years ago when we donated cookies to the Ronald McDonald House we stayed at when Ryan was born. I still love the bottles. They allow all ages to participate without getting overly messy…
I thought Ryan might be old enough this year….
But as much as he tried, he couldn’t get much icing out. He kept holding the bottle upside-down and saying “stuck, stuck”. I told him to squeeze the bottle so he turned it right-side up and squeezed it with both hands. The icing ran down the side of the bottle. So much for that.
Instead he took to saying, “Help! Help!” until one of his sisters or Natalie’s friend answered his call.

The girls, however, had a blast.

I think next time we need a few more cookies…

You can find the icing bottles at Michael’s craft store and the icing recipe here.
