The Hobbits are Home!

March 1, 2009/Ryan

The girls came home late last night and were very excited to see mommy. Unfortunately, I was still at the hospital. Natalie jumped on the phone with me and right away said, “I want my mommy.”  I told her I would be home soon. “Are you going to drive?” she asked.   “Yes, sweetie, I’m going to come in a car.” I said.   “But how, mommy, your car is here.” she said. Man, she’s smart!  I explained to her Henry’s mom would drive me home.

I forgot how stinkin’ cute they are. Just a few things they said in the past 24 hours:
This morning, Ainsley came into the room with a backpack on and carrying a tote bag.
“Do you like my backpack?” she asked.
“Yes I do like your backpack.” I answered.
“Thank you.” she said and walked out.
Ainsley on the way to meet Ryan – “Are we going to see my baby hudder (brother)?”
Natalie on the way home tonight from the hospital:
“It’s so cool that Pop gets to work from his office at his house.”
“Yep, that’s neat, huh.” I said.
“Yeah, so he can get us treats when we want him to.” she said.
Laughing, “Yes, so he can get you treats.” I said.
“Daddy, can you work from your office at home like Pop does?”
I had a feeling that’s where this was going..
The girls met Ryan today with very little reaction to his environment. Natalie, of course, asked lots of questions, but neither of them acted nervous or afraid of his room or machines or him. We covered his “big boo-boo” so they just saw him wrapped in a blanket. They sang him songs and talked to him…it was very cute. In fact, we left the hospital to eat at the Ronald McDonald House and on the way home Natalie asked if we could go say good night to Ryan. So, she wasn’t phased by all the medical stuff.
And, I noticed while we were there Ryan’s blood pressure was about 10-15 points lower than where he’s been the last day or two. Good news that the sisters don’t bother him with their noise. I really think he recognizes their voices too. Thank you for praying for a smooth transition for the girls. We are still trying to figure out a visiting schedule.

Leighann, I’ve caught up on all your posts since delivering Ryan — including those precious delivery stories: how cool to have a blog to type all that out for your memory!!! Glad things are progressing. Keep it up – you’re a great mama! Blessings, Karin

I am so glad that the girls were able to see their brother. Trent has never been freaked out by the hospital environment and he always enjoys going to “Maggie’s hospital”. I think it makes them more sensitive to what their brother or sister is going through. The visiting schedule is very hard. Remember, that they are very resilient and even though their schedule may get pretty out of wack, they will bounce back once life gets back to “normal”. It’s really important to involve them as much as possible, and a little extra spoiling’s not a bad thing either. 🙂
Hang in there, you’re doing great! Heart hugs,
    Faith

What an exciting time that was for your family! So many answered prayers as well! The girls must be thrilled to see the baby brother and know where he is now. And mom & Dad must have been loving having all three children in the same room for a few short moments. I continue to pray for you throughout my days and love hearign of the Lord’s workign in your lives! To God be the glory!

oh, i wish i could help with the visits. that’s so great that ryan seemed to thrive with them there. he prolly does recognize them and love them – it would only be natural for the girls to be a bit of “entertainment”. miss you and wish i was closer. you are all in my constant prayers.
