The Eagle Has Landed…

July 17, 2009/kids

We’re finally home. The home oxygen arrived today around 12:30 p.m. and we left for the hospital at 1:30 p.m.  The girls stayed with a friend so I could get Ryan unfettered and then I came back and picked them up for the rest of the drive home.

Natalie jumped up and down on the sidewalk when she saw my car pulling into the neighborhood. She is so excited to see Ryan. We set him and his oxygen machine up in the living room and she suggested she should sleep in the living room with him since he can’t move around. I assured her he would be here in the morning when she woke up.
Ainsley is excited too. Her car seat is next to Ryan’s in the car and I looked in the rearview mirror to see her smiling down at him and rubbing his cheek, head and hand. She had the most nurturing look on her face. So darn sweet, these kids of mine.
Ryan’s eyes were big when we first came into the house and his little arms were pulled up tight to his body (like every other time we’ve come home). I wondered how long his anxiety would last… about a minute later as I was buckling him into his swing, his arms were already down by his sides. Yeah!  He’s sleeping peacefully now.
We’ll probably stay close to home the next few days as we figure out this oxygen thing. Our home nurse is coming tomorrow to check on us and I’m sure we’ll be seeing doctors often enough. Ryan’s heart cath to officially measure his pulmonary arteries and to do reconnaissance for the Glenn procedure is scheduled for Monday, August 3, so we are only home for about two and a half weeks before at least staying one night in the hospital.  A short four weeks after that is the Glenn. Wow, time sure does go fast.
(pictures to come as soon as I can either find my camera or upload the pics I took today on a friend’s camera.)
