I feel like I failed the girls this summer. There was a ton of playing – which is good. But there wasn’t a ton of instruction – bad mommy! I feel guilty. I feel like I missed 11 weeks of opportunity to pour into my girls and I spent them being busy packing, moving, and unpacking.
The good news is my son decided this week to crawl (he goes back and forth from dragging his legs to using them) and to sit up by himself from the lying down position. Boy am I in trouble when he realizes he can sit up any time he wants. So far, it’s been random. We are supposed to encourage cruising, but he locks his knees when he stands so we are concentrating first on him bending his legs so he can walk correctly!
And last but not least, he ate pizza tonight after it was cut up in a food processor. He took six bites of it without choking on it. Yeah!!
So much has happened for you all this summer! I don’t really remember a lot of instruction in the summer time growing up, and I turned out alright….I think. 🙂 Just enjoy the times you can and go with the flow…that’s how I roll! So proud of Ryan!! He has really made some huge strides! Can’t wait to see you all! Love ya…
i totally agree with richelle and would’ve said something similar. children really care about the time you spend with them, and that’s what teachers and school are for anyway, and i would do anything to have a 3 month vacay again! hehe… still working on the post-grad plans, so can’t say anything exciting happened, hm, other than the birth of baby number 3 for one of my friends. so exciting to hear about baby ryan. he amazes me!

Looking at your past posts I’d say you gave lots of instructions. The girls did baking with you not to mention taste testing. They got to practice their beauty shop skills.***smirk** They learned to love on their little brother. Those are all positive summer experiences.Your children look like wonderful, happy, excited kids. What could be better than a mom and dad who love them 🙂
Your daughters received “instruction” in watching you love and care for others….and that is so what God has called us to do. You are blest and a blessing.
Sunday-Daughter had car wreck, she is ok, wasn’t her fault… Monday-Looked for new car, handled insurance Tuesday-Bought new (used) car, started on baking for the week, already two days behind… Wednesday-Delivered one cake, finished another cake Thursday-finished and delivered another cake, almost finsihed another cake at 2:00 (Friday morning) Friday- Up at 5:30 to bake cookies so they will be ready to ice this afternoon…. OH and I worked all week at my real job! BUT…….Praise God my daughter is ok, I have a great job, I love baking and sharing in other peoples happy moments!! I love your blog!
Yay for Ryan! I am sure your girls learned lots during the summer…don’t feel guilty. My week was very exciting…on Monday, my daughter gave birth to my first grandchild – a beautiful baby girl. Let the spoiling begin. 🙂
Ok first, like others have said, DON’T WORRY about not “instructing” the girls. Kids are constantly learning from the world around them, whether we like it or not, whether we “teach” them or not. Your examples as parents/adults is instruction enough. Don’t put a guilt trip on yourself.
Second, to respond to your question, YES exciting things have happened – our baby had his first cereal last night! He seemed to thoroughly enjoy the experience!
you’re too hard on yourself. i think you should give yourself a pat on the back for all the wonderful things you’ve accomplished. i bet if you made a list of all the things you’ve gotten done versus the things you haven’t you’d be amazed at yourself. you are a wonderful mother and an amazing person. You’re also a pretty good sister if i do say so myself 😉 to answer your question: i cut my fingers at work monday requiring 8 stitches to put them back together. i think i already told you about that though and since then nothing. love you, katie
Just by watching you, those kids are learning Leighann!
They learned what moving entails for one thing. They are learning how to care for a baby with special needs..and that will be something that makes them stronger.
I am so glad that Ryan is crawling and eating pizza…(:>) So exciting.
Cooking is another thing you teach your girls and I’m sure a zillion other things.

As mothers we tend to beat ourselves up.
Don’t. You had a great, crazy summer and they will not suffer later in life for not having had more “instruction”. They learn plenty just from “life”.
And as for Ryan: Woo hoo!
