It finally feels like spring (although winter is in the forecast for the weekend). Yay!! Sunday was beautiful. We played outside all afternoon with the neighbors…. the kids tried their hands at flying kites.
And although it was windy, we never were quite successful.
Then we all met at a nearby park to shoot off a rocket Henry had put together. “Every boy needs a rocket,” he said. Natalie’s response was, “I think you mixed up need and want.”
He used the “short” engine which ended up going very, very far into the sky. If you look at the picture below, the rocket with parachute open is on the right almost halfway up. The parachute appears as a dark dot in the clouds.
The wind ended up blowing the rocket out of the park, across the interstate and into some trees. We could see a house, with dormers and that’s it. While the dads figured out where it landed via the satellite map on a smart phone, the kids played on the playground.
Then we headed in the direction we thought the rocket might be. We drove through some neighborhoods, but knew it was somewhere less populated… so we looked and looked for a country lane. At the end of this lane was a brick house with dormers surrounded by trees and fields. It had to be it.
We asked if we could look around. And lo and behold, we found it hanging in a tree. What are the chances?
Natalie took a stab at climbing to get it…..
But in the end, the boy who lived there climbed way up to shake it loose.
I think finding the thing was just as exciting as shooting it off – which the kids are set on doing again soon.
Ryan was more into the rocket than looking at the camera. Several times throughout the evening he told me, “We shoot a helicopter in the sky. It went “shooo” (moving his finger up in the air). We find it.”
I think Henry was right…. all boys do need a rocket.

So glad spring has sprung here in Massachusetts as well. And my husband would agree…every boy needs a rocket! So much fun 🙂
We tried to fly kites on Sunday as well. We had 1 successful launch and then it seemed that the gusts of wind would not cooperate or stick around long enough to keep the dang things up. We switched to bikes for the rest of the afternoon!
Henry looks so skinny! and love the fun adventure.
We have shot quite a few rockets off in our neighborhood. The first landed somewhere in the front section of our subdivision – never found it. One landed on the roof of the neighboring Baptist Church. But, most of them we’ve been able to find. Every boy does NEED a rocket – and maybe the girls too 🙂
Haha! We were very lucky to find it. Henry keeps testing the wind to see when we should shoot it off again.
