Seven Quick Takes, plus or minus a few

December 31, 2009/Seven Quick Takes
A day early this week, but a great way to catch up!
1
We are finally home. We arrived last night in time for dinner, er, I mean, in time to drive through Chick-Fil-A and eat at home. I haven’t seen my boy for almost a week. I can’t wait to get there today. And yes, Kristen FKA Anonymous, I will take pictures and post them tomorrow so you can see how he’s grown. But first, I can’t wait to get my hands on his little body and give him a big hug and kiss.

We are so off schedule. And off our eating regimen. With all the visits, festivities and vacationing activities (think gaming until the wee hours of the morning), we are off. It leads to things like falling asleep on the couch while waiting for pizza to be put on your plate, napping for an hour on said couch and then not going to sleep until 11:15 p.m.!  But school starts up again next week and we need to be back to our normal schedule. There will be no more chances to sleep in until eight or nine, so it’s time to get back on track. Well…. after tonight.

Remember my work out clothes that sat on the floor for two weeks…. that turned into the last two months although I finally put them back in my drawer. It’s time to pull them out again. I need to start thinking about swim suit season. Swim suit season? you say. That isn’t for another six months!   Yes, I know… but I am one of those people who needs to start thinking about it well before April. So, PX90, here I come.

And remember when I asked you what you thought this was?
Well here is the reveal…
Call me crazy, but I make my own laundry soap. It is super easy and way less expensive. I saw the recipe online…. it’s one shredded bar of Ivory, 1 cup of washing soda, and 1 cup of Borax. I triple the recipe to make approximately the same amount as a box of store-bought laundry detergent. Some people mix in essential oils for scents such as lavender, but we have sensitive skin in our house so we go with the original recipe.

Do you set New Year’s Resolutions? We set goals. I did not set any last year. I just didn’t have the energy. This year I have three: read the Bible cover-to-cover in 2010, finish a writing project I’m working on by the end of February, and brush up on my Spanish. That’s it. No more.
Funny story about reading the Bible cover-to-cover. A few years ago my sister was gushing how their church was reading the Bible together in a year (a great concept) so everyone was on the same page and reading the same things and the pastor would refer to what they were reading during his sermons. It was like the second week in January and she was so excited because they had just finished reading the book of Genesis (the first book of the Bible). I couldn’t help it… I started giggling. “Why are you laughing?” she said. “I’m sorry,” I said. “Not to one-up you, but a friend and I just started reading the Bible in 90 days and we just finished the book of Deuteromony (the fifth book of the Bible).”  It doesn’t look that funny in writing… maybe it’s one of those ‘you had to be there’ things. Anyway, trust me, it was funny at the time.
Now back to the subject at hand, what you are goals for 2010?

Loved the pictures & you’re creative with making your own laundry soap! My goals for 2010 is also to read the Bible to understand it more, to be more faithful & trusting in the Lord, and to focus one hour at a time, one day at a time. 🙂 Continuing to pray for lil Ryan and your family! 🙂 Have a Happy New Year! 🙂

The pictures are good as always!
Question Other than the soap do add anything special to your homemade detergent??

    My goals for 2010:
    Read the Bible thru
    Memorize more scripture
and lose a few pounds (I know that’s one that is hard to maintain but I really need to lose a few well…..I just need to find a new weight:D )

I am doing the Program Motivated Mom’s this year, which has daily bible reading in it. I just heard yesterday about reading the bible in 90 days and had bookmarked it to print.
I saw a promo for The Bible Experience, which is the whole bible narriated by famous people reading the bible. It is read in such a moving way you can not help but feel what is being said. I plan on buying the MP3 version later today to download to my IPOD.
We have to get back on schedule too, its been nice sleeping in but its going to be had come next week.
Goals for this year, I guess my big one would be a closer walk with God this year, and the usual get in shape and spending more quality time with the kids.

I plan to steal 2 of your goals for 2010 for myself, read the Bible cover to cover and brush up on my Spanish as well. Thanks for sharing. Do you have a schedule for it that you can share as well?

My goal is to start setting my alarm to get up early. I’m a stay at home mom with just one child…a 19 month old daughter…and I NEED time to myself. I’m going to try to get up early so I have time to devote to prayer and mentally preparing for my day, a shower and a cup of coffee before the little one starts stirring. If I can maintain that through January then I plan to reevaluate and maybe set an additional goal for February. In the past I’ve set “resolutions”, like 3 or 4 but I’ve overwhelmed myself with them within the first 2 weeks of the new year and never follow through with any of them. This year I’m going to take the “don’t bite off more than you can chew” approach.

Paula – I do not put anything else in the detergent. I use 2-3 tbsp per large load depending on how I feel.

Marmi – (aka my MIL) – I will consider making you soap since you are so wonderful. Just remind me ’cause I’ll probably never remember.

Babyyahyah – I tend to get lost in the year with trying to read each of the 365 days. My mom just gave me a great idea of breaking it down into 66 single sittings reading one book of the Bible at a time. Some of the books might be hard to do in a sitting, think Psalms, but most the others can be done this way. I might give this a try.

Kitzie – http://www.ewordtoday.com/year/ has a few schedules depending on if you want chronological, historical order, traditional, etc. Check it out.

Sarah – I’ve done the same thing….too many resolutions. I like your resolution. Getting up before the kids always makes me more mentally ready for the day. Good luck!

My goals for 2010 are to try and clean less (I am a neat freak), volunteer in a home for the elderly (I always feel sad when I see elderly people eating alone, trying to get their groceries in their car and I can only imagine that there are many alone in assisted or non-assisted homes) and learn Scots Gaelic.

Happy New Year to you and here’s to hoping that Ryan comes home soon!!

ok–one question for you–is washing soda the same as baking soda?? Where do you find it if it is something different?
    Thanks!! Love your blog!

Im doing 365 days of blessings, I have a facebook account, and I’m trying to post everyday in my status, but even if I don’t get on everyday I’m keeping a mini journal to write down every single blessing. I’m having fun thinking of blessings for everyday.
