Seven Quick Takes

January 29, 2010/Recipes

Seriously, it’s Friday already? Let’s see if I can come up with Seven Quick Takes:

1
I used to have ‘laundry day’. You know, a day where I purposefully didn’t plan anything outside the house and fed the machine all day to get totally caught up. I also tried to get it all put away in that day too. Sometimes it sat in the basket a day or two, but we’ve never consistently lived out of a basket.
Now I am laughing at myself. You know… the laughing so you don’t cry method. My laundry piles up so high and I just feed the machine when I think I might not have clean foundational wear for the next day. And as for putting it away, I mean, why does it need to be put away? You’re just going to get it dirty again. Pulling it from the dryer or taking it off the hall floor where I stack my clean clothes piles is working just as well.
Kidding…kindof. As of this week I am trying a new method where I do a load or two a day and put just those away as I fold them. No waiting for the next load to be done. That way, at least one load is done and away and doesn’t take a lot of time.

Mrs. Ziggy: Thank you so much for commenting and reading all about Ryan’s story!! I’m sure you are not the only one who would like to add their email to their profile but doesn’t want to go back and find how to do it. I put the instructions down the sidebar (under the blog frog community) so they are always in plain view. I can’t wait to email you back. It sounds like you have an interesting story to tell. Do you have a blog?

Wow! There are a lot of bargain shoppers out there! I loved reading all your comments and the way you save on groceries. One of my new tricks is to do one meatless meal a week (I think someone else mentioned doing that too). This week I made bean burritos with the works. They were incredible (I even added avocado to the mix. And, admit it, anything with avocado tastes better).
I got the recipe (and photo) here:

Ryan is doing a good job progressing at home. Wednesday night he was sitting on my lap watching the girls and I eat dinner. I noticed him moving his mouth the way he does when I offer him water on a spoon (think tongue out panting like a dog). I realized he was putting two and two together that we were eating and he wanted to join us. Natalie ran and got me some water in a cup and a baby spoon.
He ate (drank) about 5 ccs of water without choking once. Feeling rather cocky, I quick mixed up some runny rice cereal and offered him another 5 ccs or so of it. He ate it all without choking again. Whoo hoo! I let him wash it down with a little more water. Here he is eating from a spoon:

Ainsley has always been my climber. Here is how I found her the other day.

Um…..yeah. That’s all I’ve got. Hmmm. Yeah, yeah, that’s it.
Okay, wrapping up then. Anyone have weekend plans? We have a few family stopping in to see the babe and some odds and ends here and there, but nothing big. Should be a nice quiet weekend.

Hmmmm….your first comment is certainly weird….

Look how smart baby Ryan is!! It has done him a world of good to get to come home to be with the family. I think he’ll progress leaps and bounds just by being able to watch the girls. You just wait…it won’t be long until that ole feeding tube will be outta there and he’ll be eating like a champ!! God is good all the time.

Yay Ryan. Way to go buddy. Keep eating.
I have a climber in my house too. There is no such thing as putting something high so that Abigail can’t reach it. She will climb to any height to get candy or anyting else she shouldn’t have.
This weekend we will be working on the house so that one day we can stretch out. Can’t wait!!!
    love ya all.

There is no place like home, and for Ryan that seems to be so very true. Leaps and bounds he is developing while at home surrounded by love. Red glittery dress shoes as the “no place like home” symbol are probably not cool for a boy, but maybe you coud find some “manly” baby boy boots and put red glitter on those. No place like home…..how totally wonderful for all of you.

lol i am so with you on the laundry. I just leave things in baskets too…lol. I have 5 kids and that would mean I never stop doing laundry if I were to put everything away…lol. If things are to be put away then other people can put them there. LOl. with all thats been going on in your life i think you deserve to take it easy on yourself.

I’ve got a climber too. She used to get up on things and then start crying cause she couldn’t get down. 🙂
Glad to hear Ryan’s settling in and getting the hang of even more things at home.
As for weekend plans, we originally did have big ones but it seems the weather has probably canceled them out so I’m not sure what we’ll be doing now!
Hope you have a great weekend yourself.

hey leighann, I am trying to get back into the blogging world now that I am back in Budapest. It was so fun seeing you over Christmas… I cannot wait for my next furlough so I can actually MEET Ryan… that would be so great. That is awesome he ate the rice cereal with you… go Ryan!!!

I have a question for you… someone mentioned to me the other day about the p90x thing and I remember you talking about doing it. Will you shoot me an email about how you liked that program… your thoughts. Thanks!

Have a fun relaxing weekend. 2 of our students are getting baptized and we might take the boys ice skating… or so we think…

No big plans for the weekend. Kim and I are getting ready for our romantic shuttle launch trip by ourselves, and this week is full of evening activities for me so I think I need to do some laundry this weekend. If it doesn’t snow too much, I need to return something at the mall. Oh and my sister is coming over tomorrow I think… I guess I do have a little going on.

I try to make it a habit to drag EVERYTHING to the laundromat every saturday late morning/early afternoon while the one year old naps, I often take the 2 year old and 6 year old and they’ve gotten really used to going. It doesn’t hurt that they have bouncy ball machine, a soda machine(yes I feed them sugar while we’re there) and a candy dispenser..lol. they play the whole time really well usually. Sometimes my mom comes at the end, helps me pull all 80 loads outta the dryer and fold them, then everyone gets their own baskets, so when I get home and my awesome husband hauls them up for me, I take each basket to their designated room, its easier.
If i get lazy… we live outta baskets. but we have 3 kids in an apartment so it gets a little scarey
