Pre-Op Jitters

March 8, 2012/Ryan

Ryan’s having his heart catheterization on Friday about mid-day. When I got the news late on Tuesday, I suddenly felt like I needed to complete every administrative task that’s been on the back burner for the last month. The bathing suit that makes me look square – took it back. The sweater vest that makes Ryan look more ashen than he is – returned. The ketchup that wasn’t sealed when we went to opened it – exchanged. Yeah, baby! It feels great to check these things off the list.

Wednesday I was in a frenzy checking things off the list and running around town getting Ryan a last-minute pre-op doctor’s appointment, blood work, and a urine analysis. Of course Ryan wouldn’t pee at the lab so I had to collect his pee-pee in a sterile bag and take it back to the lab a few hours later.
On top of obsessively moving things from the back burner to the fire, I also had actual things that needed to get done TODAY – think finish collecting girl scout cookie money for Ainsley’s troop of which I’m the cookie mom and trying to wrap up collecting money for a school fundraiser basket.
I sent out numerous emails in which I was trying to sound very business-like but most likely came off sounding as frantic as I felt. The good news is the cookies are done. The money is in. Whew. The basket can wait until next week.
There’re still a few things to get done today, then we’re heading out tonight for the drive to DC. Check in tomorrow – I’ll try to post when Ryan’s headed into the procedure and when he’s done. Please pray everything goes well. Although caths are pretty routine for us, they still come with their own set of risks.

I know we don’t know each other in person, but I’m local to the hospital. Please let me know if you need anything while you’re here.
