Oh my goodness, I have so many good projects waiting in the wings, but none I could finish in time to leave for the conference so I scanned my boards for a quickie. Here she is:
It’s from Urban Farm Girl – a picture of something she was giving away. It’s not the first time I’ve seen a burlap table runner in blogland and every time I think, “I can make that!” So I did….
I had some extra burlap lying around from another project. I measured my table (94″), added 6″ to each side (106″) and cut a little longer than that from my burlap.
Next I ironed the whole thing, then measured exactly 16″ across to make a hem up the one side (the other side was hemmed from the fabric piece I was using – lucky me!). I placed pins every few inches to keep me honest.
I sewed a straight line up the side, trimmed off the excess.
The original one I fell in love with had a fringed edge, not a ruffle, so I made my fringed instead by cutting little strips tying them in a knot.
Or you can leave it straight and simple.
I can’t wait to have hydrangeas on our bush so I can put a few in mason jars and alternate them in this vintage tool box for a centerpiece. (please ignore the tootsie-roll wrapper and blue slinky on the floor)
Until then, some white dishes will have to suffice.
Either way, it’s a great way to add a little character to the table in about an hour’s worth of time.
Being a beginner at sewing – I’m always surprised when something works the way I want it to the first time. I’m really happy with the runner. What did you make this week?
You have to figure out how to pin your cabbage and tater’s. I just made them again(25th time atleast) sad to say for them not me, no one else like’s it like I do.
