The girls have been asking for over a week if we could get our Christmas tree. So this weekend, we did.
I know a lot of families head out to the country to cut their own tree down at a farm. We are not that family.
Saturday was bitter cold and windy. Not a day to be out traipsing around a field with three little ones.
So we drove 8 minutes away to the local nursery and picked a tree from their lot.
His head is cute even with a hat on it.
The family walking on ahead. (Henry in green, Natalie in lime green, and Ainsley in hot pink)
We walked through the rows trying to figure out which tree would best suit our needs. Henry found it lying on the outside row. A nice man took our picture.
Ryan decided his glove was better for chewing on.
We came home and got out our decorations… Lord knows where and how they were all acquired for I certainly don’t remember buying this many.
Henry and I carried in the tree and stood it up. (I’d like to point out, mom, that I am lifting with my legs and not my back. I almost didn’t post this picture because I look so ridiculous, but I’m a giver.)
It was quite an ordeal to get the tree up… it was heavy and we realized the trunk was cut at an angle. We layed it down in the living room and hacksawed it even. We had to send the kids to bed while we made sure it was sturdy.
We decorated Sunday afternoon. I stood high on a ladder. Unafraid. I told you… my fear of heights is strange. Sometimes here and sometimes not.
The girls were so excited when we finally got to the ornaments.
When we were all done Natalie said, “Let’s sing ‘O Christmas Tree’.
We love our tree…. and I just realized I don’t have a picture of the finished product. Ha! But I’m too tired to take one. As Natalie says, I pinky-swear I’ll put one up later this week.
Have you put up your tree?

awe so cute!!! loved all the photos esp the family photo and the one where Ryan ‘chewed’ on his glove!’
I actually have a little mini tree for my apartment that I set on a glass table and decorated it with lights and ornaments it’s cute for a small size. :o)
We put up our tree on Thankgiving. We have a fake one!
I like real ones but do not like taking care of all the needles everywhere. 🙂
I like seeing Ryan tube free!
Leighann I can’t believe you were standing on the top of the ladder like that! You are such a little elf!
And it looked funny with you working so had to lift the huge tree, when your big strong husband was right there!
I get a kick out of you! (:>) And I have grown to love your sweet family.
Ryan is always in our prayers….as are each of you.
He looks so cute and is so sweet. I am glad you had someone take a family picture at the tree farm. We need a record of all of those great memories!
Can’t wait to see that big tree all decorated! It is awesome.
Love you,
Linda
Linda – Henry was lifting the tree too. He just has longer arms so it doesn’t look so dramatic! There’s no way I can lift that tree by myself .
Now you know you have a BIG tree when the Giant must use a ladder, LOL.
Loved the pics, as always…especially the one of you almost buried in the tree. 🙂
Jim, the kids and I got our tree Sunday and put it in the livingroom. I put the lights and beads on Monday while staying home from work due to a snow storm (yuck). Jim will help me with the ornaments and such when he returns from a work related trip to Ohio.
I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed Christmas! Love you and miss you!
Loved the pics. Did you sing “O Christmas Tree”?
We put our tree up on Fri. night. I let the kids decorate it. When they weren’t looking I re-arranged the ornaments so there weren’t 6 on 1 limb.
I put ours up last Friday and decorated on Saturday. The house is all Christmassy now and I am happy!
I love this post. Looks like a great family memory for your guys! Our tree is up and fake so not as hard to do as yours. I swore I would never cave to a fake tree but our middle child is seriously allergic and having a real tree in the main living space causes some breathing issues so the Dr said no a few years ago. I miss the huge real tree and going to the farm or nursrey to find the perfect one so I love seeing your family photos today!
I laughed out loud over the picture of you helping the Giant lift the tree! It looks like the tree is literally eating you up!
Just how tall is that Giant of yours? You are standing on top of that tall ladder and yet his hand is at the same level as your hand is! He is one tall dude!
Thanks for the great post. Got my laugh for the day and I’m feeling better for it too. I love your sense of humor. I can see how your girls inherited the same hilarious sense of humor.
@ Johanna: We did sing O Christmas Tree. I almost laughed out loud at us but decided it would hurt the girls’ feelings.
@ anonymous: Henry is 6’9″.
i LOVE the photo of you IN the tree! 🙂
Wow that is one serious Christmas tree!! Yep, we put ours up last Friday.
