Nipping the Buds

April 8, 2010/kids

I love my children. They are keepers for sure. But the last few days were hard.

I am noticing attitudes and behaviors that must change. Must.
Natalie stomps her foot A LOT when I ask her to do something.
And says, BUT MOM!
And is generally displaying a bad attitude. I am working on it. If I don’t, I will reap the consequences when she is a teenager.
Ainsley is pushing back in her own way too… lots of crying and fussing and begging when I say ‘no’ to something. We are working on this too.
I hate this part of parenting, but I think it is what it’s mostly about… training kids to be respectful and unselfish. But days full of correction are hard.
Additionally Ryan is having difficulty with his reflux. He is coughing a lot with his feeds. And that means he needs more attention.
I am stretched thin and looking forward to the pay off of consistent parenting.

Sounds more like pruning 🙂 I just read this little e-book called Smooth and Easy Days you can find it for free on Simply Charlotte Mason website.
    Here is the link

I also read a sample from Laying Down Rails e-book that one is not free, it’s on my wish list. 🙂

Not sure how much time you have (heheee) but Shepherding A Child’s Heart by Tedd Tripp. has really helped us in training our children.

    Well that’s my 3 cents … 🙂
Hang in there they are worth it!

I have four girls, and one boy here on earth and let me tell you, attitudes all the way!
    Girl ~ 15 yr. old
    Girl ~ 14 yr. old
    Girl ~ 12 yr. old
    Girl ~ 9 yr. old
    Boy ~ 3 yr. old
    equals ~ BAD ATTITUDE
hope things get better for the both of us.

We’re struggling with those kind of things lately as well.(I lose track of how many times a day I hear the word ‘but’ from my 6 yo!) It’s hard right now to be consistent while also being so sick with #3. But I know I’ll regret it down the road if I let things go. Praying for grace and strength for the both of us!

I hear you on the parenting thing. I am convinced that these two words sum up parenting….
    consistent and deliberate

If I can get these two down – a friend commented one time that when she gets to the end of her rope, it is because she has been slack and not consistent or deliberate. Yet we tend to blame the kids but often seems like it is us for letting something go on for so long.
Love without discipline leads to insecurity and discipline without love leads to rebellion.
The best part is though, that God has shown you the issues and you are working to shape that will.

I sure will be thinking of you this week more as always.Yes our children do tend to get habits we have to break them out of early. My 9 year old tends to want to do what my 15 year old does with the attitudes. But it doesn’t last very long because he sees how his sister loses alot of privilages of doing fun stuff and he decides he is not going to act that way really fast. Hang in there your a great mom!

I say a lot of “This is not up for discuss. Do X now.”

Our favorite phrase here right now is “you get what you get & you don’t get upset” – and that include time on mommy’s lap, and instructions on doing what you are told!

Praying for all the mommy’s out there who are needing some support!

I feel your pain sister, some days it’s hard to be consistent when your all worn out. Hang in there we know it will all be worth it.

My almost 5 year old is getting to be really annoying lately. Such a sweet little boy till recently. My 8 year old is into pushing my buttons, my 11 year old has her moments–she is I am sure in the calm before the storm mode.

123 Magic worked with a lot of different things.

Training dogs is easier. Mine are competition obedience dogs. It is amazing what a dog can be trained to do.
