Our community garden is really taking off. We’re on our second harvest of lettuce for the three families. The lettuce is the most tender you’ve ever eaten. Melts like butter in your mouth. Harvey said we should get at least one more harvest out of it. This spring mix grows back after being cut unlike the romaine. Harvey smartly planted the romaine at different times so it is maturing at different times. We cut off the first head yesterday.
Our cilantro is growing like crazy. We need to start cooking with it. We are letting it flower so that we can save the seeds for next year and will harvest the leaves underneath. Looks like I need to make my Thai chicken recipe this week.
Sadly our peppers and eggplant aren’t doing much. They’ve been attacked by bugs and really have stayed very little. Poor things.
Over in my yard we have some zucchini and cucumbers. Neither growing extremely big (I think the patch doesn’t get the sun it needs) but still growing. All the plants either have blossoms or are close to having them so at least we’ll be able to get a harvest.
It always surprises me how the dear will eat the hostas right up to the garden plants and then them alone. Maybe I should invest in more prickly zuccchini plants and not worry about the hostas!
