One of the most overwhelming tasks about heading down to the hospital is keeping the girls occupied while there. They are 4.5 and 2.5 and like all other kids, need stimulation. While popping in a movie seems like the easiest thing, I don’t always want to rely on this method of entertainment. It zaps my girls’ creativity so that by the time the movie is over, they can’t think of single a thing they’d like to do on their own.

So, I modified a home-schooling system I saw on the internet last week. The other mom used numbered bins to visually motivate her children through the day. This lets them see in advance what the ‘schedule’ of work is. It struck me that I could use this at the hospital and replace the school work with activities for the girls.
Monday I introduced the girls to the bin system and they loved it. They went through all the drawers and played contently for 3 hours. It was great. I hope by changing out the activities, this will get us through the next few months.

LeighAnn, what a creative mother you are. Many times I had my children watch a movie so I could get something done which was much less important than what you are doing. May God continue to bless you with creative ideas, health for Ryan and His Pressence in your day.

Leighann, I just found your blog and it brought tears to me as I saw the pictures of little Ryan. I was remembering when Natalie was just a “bean,” and now you and Henry are the parents of three beautiful children. I praise God that you are able to juggle all that is on your plate and I will now pray for increased strength. Ryan is so precious! I’m particularly fond of his name which will help me to remember to pray for him often. Love you, Cheryl Ryan 🙂

Just remember that God will never give you more than you can handle and that no matter how you feel, you are never alone.
