He’s Ready, I’m not.

August 30, 2012/Ryan

Ryan’s going to preschool this year. We meet his teacher in just a few hours.  I asked him  yesterday if he wanted to meet his preschool teacher. (Boy was that a mistake to bring this up a whole 24 HOURS in advance. I never heard the end of it.)  This was our conversation:

R: Meet teacher? Preschool teacher? MY teacher?
Me: Yep, we’ll meet her tomorrow.
R: Bus? Me bus?
Me: No. You’re not going on the bus.
R: You drive me, preschool?
Me: Yep, I’m going to drive you to preschool.
R: Book bag?
Me: Sure, you can take a book bag.
R: I have book bag?
Me: You do? Show me?
(Running to his room and bringing back his camo knapsack.)
R: Book bag here.
Me: Yep, that is a book bag. You can take that to school with you.
R: Homework me?
Me: No you won’t have homework.
R: Piano me?
Me: You want to practice piano?
R: Yes.
Me: Okay, you can practice piano.
R: Three times?
Me: Okay, practice your song three times. (He hears me tell the girls to practice their songs 10 times. I don’t know why he chose three times, but he did.)
(trash truck coming through the neighborhood)
R:  I hear da bus. Book bag? (grabbing his book bag and breathing heavily like he’s excited.) Bus here!
Me: Ryan, it’s the trash truck, not the bus. And you’re not taking the bus. And we’re going tomorrow.
R: You drive me preschool?

And then it started over with the book bag and not riding the bus and it being tomorrow and not today…. and on and on. But seriously. This kid can’t talk like other 3.5 year olds, but he gets it. Don’t let him fool you. He’s all over what’s going on in this house and he’s excited to have a piece of it.

Aw so cute!! I remember each of my kids has been crushed to learn that they were not riding the school bus. And Sophia, when they went on field trips in Kindergarten they got to ride the bus, would come home and I would ask her how the pumpkin patch or symphony or whatever was, and all she would talk about was the darn bus ride! I told her teacher finally they should just have the kids ride around the block in a school bus for field trips and save everyone some money!

Ryan sounds sooo ready for pre-school! I can’t wait to hear all about this new chapter in his life. And his speech sounds great to me…he organized his thoughts and conveyed them to you! Have a great first day, Ryan!

Not to be presumptuous but that post just brought tears – you have gone through so much with him and of course I have followed every step of the way, it feels like my youngest is heading off to preschool and it is a happy/sad event. He also shares a birthday with my youngest (although she is 9). I am so happy that Ryan gets to experience all the normal doings and just seeing his smiling face brightens my day — it is truly God’s Miracle.

Wow! Is he really that old!? I’ve been following your blog since he was born and that doesn’t seem possible!
