Happy Birthday, Ainsley!

July 27, 2009/Ainsley

Ainsley is three! We celebrated her birthday today with family. She loved being the birthday girl. We were sitting down to eat and she said, “I the birth-day hirl!”

I was thinking today about our family before Ainsley came. A lot has happened in those three years: we live in a different house, Henry works for a different company, Natalie started preschool, Ryan arrived… it’s hard to remember how simple life was.
But simple doesn’t always mean better. Ainsley brings such joy to our family. She loves to sing and dance and will put on a show to get you to laugh at her. She is sensitive to people’s feelings, but unafraid to express her own.
Ainsley loves to snuggle. She’s one of those kids who crawls in bed with you, but you don’t realize it until you wake up in the morning and she’s there, melded to the side of your body.
Her favorite phrase continues to be, “mo-me me” which means ‘carry me’ or ‘hold me’. She has said it this way since she started talking and it’s one of the things she never corrected.
She loves to play with little figures – our hospital set, our dollhouse, polly pockets, mini-pollys, and the new Hello Kitty dollhouse she got for her birthday. I overheard her saying to her Hello Kitty figurines tonight, “You say, ‘knock-knock’ and I’ll come to the door.” Then in a higher pitched voice, “Knock-knock.”  Original voice: “I comin’.”
She tells me to ‘he-hend’ (pretend) a lot these days. Her imagination is on overdrive. While Natalie is content to watch t.v. as much as her mommy will let her, Ainsley watches for about 20 minutes and then finds something to play with.
She loves her little brother and it took me a few weeks to realize how much she wanted to nurture Ryan. She is always putting a blanket on him (which I promptly remove when she isn’t looking since Ryan constantly sweats) and wanting him to wear shoes and socks. The latter doesn’t surprise me since she is totally into shoes. She’ll say to the nurses at the hospital, “I like your shoes.” Or “I like your shirt.”  What barely three year old compliments strangers on their attire? In fact, the first thing she said to Hello Kitty when we met her recently was, “I like your shoes.”
Speaking of Hello Kitty, here are some pictures from today:

Okay, my mom and Natalie helped her out.
