Great beginnings…

May 29, 2010/Family

We had the best Friday. Natalie found a turtle…. “Oh….my…..gooodness! (loud joyous scream) It’s a TURTLE!”

We kept the turtle for a few hours and then let him go after Ainsley came home from her last day of preschool. As we were looking to see where the turtle might have headed to, Henry pulled into the driveway, home early from work for the long holiday weekend. What an awesome surprise.
So we waited for Ryan’s feeds to finish before packing up and heading to the park as a family. It was Ryan’s first trip to a park and first time on swings. He actually really liked the swings and went between enjoying the sway of the swing to rocking in his seat excitedly.

Natalie’s big goal this time was to get across the rings. She was scared to death she was going to fall, but continued trying to swing from the first set of rings to the second. The farthest I saw her go was to the third set, but she kept pursuing her goal even after falling a few times. “I’m going to keep trying until I’m not afraid anymore.” she said to me at one point.

She also kept running to Ryan in his stroller to give him hugs and kisses. She was so excited he was there with us. There were two little girls beside us on the swing set and she explained to them what Ryan’s tubes are for. She was standing with one leg bent at the knee bouncing a little. I realized she was nervous talking to the older girls (they were maybe 8 and 9), but did a good job with her explanations. She was proud of Ryan and wanted to talk about him even if it meant talking to kids she doesn’t know. It was precious.

Ainsley also tried the rings, but didn’t go very far. They’re really too hard for someone her age, but she didn’t want to be left out. She was more into swinging on the bar above the slide and driving.

Ryan had a good time taking his first park swing ride and hanging out. He watched his sisters as they ran back and forth between the equipment and chewed on various things he found in his stroller.

After the park we came home for a game of Chutes and Ladders during dinner (Ainsley won) and finished the night with a family movie. As I lay down to go to sleep last night my heart was so full of contentment. Having Henry home early took a lot of the evening stress away and having such a fun family night made it even more gratifying. And the weekend is just beginning….
