I’m all packed and ready to go! I am leaving for a ladies’ retreat this weekend while Henry stays back with the kids. True to my family’s fashion, I felt it necessary to sweep the floors in the kitchen, laundry room, foyer, family room and master bathroom. Somehow when women in my family leave for a trip or really just leave the house in general, we feel it necessary to clean it first. It drives my husband crazy! He doesn’t understand the importance of cleaning before leaving. I don’t understand it either, but I know I have the urge. I used to have to unload the dishwasher before I took Natalie to school in the morning. I cured myself of that… now if only I could cure myself of this. Oh well, at least the floors will be clean for a day.
A day because I sweep every day and get a pile that looks like this.
Seriously. That’s one day in my kitchen. I don’t even see any cheerios in that pile. It’s disgusting and embarrassing, but it’s the truth.
But I’m leaving so I feel free as a bird.
Speaking of things that run in the family, somebody stole my brother-in-law’s car. Getting his car stolen is not hereditary, but two other parts of the story are.
The other week Ryan (my BIL, not my son) came out of the house to go to work and his car was missing. He realized no one else in the house borrowed it so he called the police. While he was waiting his neighbor approached him and they started up a conversation. Ryan explained the situation. The neighbor said, “Oh, I think I saw your car around the block on the way out of the neighborhood!”
Turns out 2 other cars were stolen that night. All had their keys in them. (hereditary #1: if I could tell you how many times Henry locked his keys in the car after moving to DC because he was so used leaving them on the floorboard, but now his living environment required locking the doors, you’d laugh… or cry).
The nice thing about Ryan’s car is that it ran out of gas before getting very far (hereditary #2: we ran out of gas so many times while dating that I finally looked at Henry and said, “If we run out of gas again, I’m not pushing the car. I refuse to push this car one more time.” And that was that.
The other day I went to put my notebook in my bag and realized I had quite the collection going:
I’m sick I tell you. If you ever need to get me a present and aren’t sure what to get, a notebook is a good bet.
And on a totally different note, I am working on an insurance issue that’s been utterly frustrating. I finally requested the hospital send me an itemized listing for Ryan’s time in the hospital from July 28 – Jan. 8. Here’s what I got in the mail yesterday:

It’s 206 pages long.
And for kicks, the total bill:
Have a great weekend! I know I will because I’ll be eating all my own food, sleeping through the night without any feet in my face, and going potty without someone on my lap. At least I hope so…

Hope you get all that straightened out. I get stressed and frustrated when dealing with my insurance over a few hundred dollars…I couldn’t even imagine your frustration! Have fun at your retreat this weekend! That should be a great little getaway!

My heart skipped a beat when I saw that final number. And then I remembered how awesome Henry’s insurance is.
