Dottie’s Bridal Shower

November 29, 2012/Family
To round out the weekend of celebrations, we threw a bridal shower for Dottie on Sunday. She’s the baby sister in the family and is getting hitched on Dec. 8. Since all of us were home for Thanksgiving we decided we needed to celebrate as a family. The guests consisted of sisters, cousins, an aunt, my mom, and one friend. Since it was such an intimate group we went with an informal “intimate” theme.
The menu consisted of chicken salad sandwiches, fruit salad, shrimp and chorizo bites, roasted squash and beet salad (I swapped the squash with sweet potatoes), brie with honey, lingerie sugar cookies, and bra cake pops.

I’ll give a gold start to the first person to find the nursing bra. I’m serious. Look til you find it.

I can’t show any of the “intimate” gifts Dottie got in case Adam should happen through this blog, but I’ll show you a few of her opening other presents.

My aunt Karen knit her a potholder wrapped in a Victoria Secrets bag. You should’ve heard some of the comments on how to use that thing!

Oh, and these were my favorite. They brought lots of comments too.

These fuzzy leopard boot-slippers are for the chilly Wisconsin nights…

Before opening the presents we played two games: 1) He said, She said: a list of questions with answers for the guests to guess if Adam or Dottie said the answer. 2) How well do you know the bride?  A list of questions for guests to answer about the bride. (pretty self-explanitory, yes?)
While Dottie opened the presents my mom wrote down the first thing she said about each gift. Then she read them back as things Dottie will say on her first night with Adam. It’s a traditional bridal shower game that’s always a hit. What made it even funnier was having the mother-of-the-bride read it. She could hardly read some of them…

Amy, Christine, and Sarah’s reaction to the reading.

After a brief intermission we came back together to play Fish Bowl with a wedding theme. Fish Bowl consists of four timed rounds. You put a certain number of words or phrases in a bowl. For the first round, each team gives clues to get their team to guess the word. They get through as many as possible before the buzzer dings. For the second round, you throw all the words back into the bowl and each team now gives one word to get their team to say the word, again getting as many as possible in the time allotment. For the third round, each team does charades getting as many words as possible. And for the fourth round, you grab a person from the other team and make their body do charades as if they were your marionette. It’s a lot of fun… since it was mostly family I knew it wouldn’t embarrass anyone.

 Round one: Amy giving clues
Round Two: Bonni giving one-word clues
(cousins: Bonni and Kim, plus Kim’s daughter, Quincy)

Round Three: Johanna as the pastor

Round four: Dottie as the soloist per Katie’s instruction.

After a crazy weekend it was hard to leave everyone behind, but we had to get on the road. I can’t wait to see everyone again in a little more than a week for the actual wedding!

Interesting post! Also, I loved Ryan in the last post with the upside down cupcake. Showers have sure changed since I got married in 1969. I think the nursing one is the white as it looks like bottons on the staps and “granny pants” not “sexy drawers”. You have a wonderful family. Have fun Becky
