February is Heart Awareness Month. This is something I did not know until last year. I found out a few weeks before Ryan was born. Something that still amazes me is that according to the American Heart Association more infants die from a congenital heart defect per year than from all childhood cancers combined, yet not many people know that much about them.

Traci and Vito Lisa are trying to change that. Their daughter, Cassidy, was born with a CHD called Tetralogy of Fallot. She is two years old and doing quite well. You can read her story here by looking under cassidylisa.
Traci and Vito recently started a Etsy jewelry store called Lucky10 to spread CHD awareness. Check out their projects here. Personally, this one is my favorite:
The Lisas have offered to give away one pendant to one lucky reader of my blog. All you have to do to enter is go to their etsy shop and come back here and comment on which two pendants are your favorite. I will close the contest on Wednesday, February 24 at 11 p.m. and will draw a random winner. Good luck!

I like the “You hold your heart in mine” and “You are stronger than you know”. I have a niece who has struggled with SVT her whole life. I never really realized what that meant (I was only 9 years old when she was born) what that meant until I started reading McMama’s blog. Now I know some of what my sister was going through when my niece was really young.

Wow… can I just say that as soon as I saw the Heart Mom one I was sitting here with tears pouring down my face and then when I got tot the site I wanted to order them all! Being a heart mom I have to say that the one you featured on your post is indeed, hands down my favorite but the one that says “I hold your heart in mine” is also very dear to my heart. I think I would have to buy that second one I mentioned if we face surgery next winter like we discussed when I saw you. It totally spoke to that part of me and my mom would love it for that reason as well. Their site is wonderful and I will certainly be making some type of purchase there or asking for it for Mother’s Day! Thanks for sharing this with us.

This is a great site. All very nice. Hold ur heart in mine, the memorial ones with names on them would be so great for a gift for one of my family members who lost there 2 year old who had multiple heart defects and leukemia. I also like the one with all the different hearts on it “heart awareness”. I guess that’s three. Well, hard to only pick two.

I like I hold your heart in mine and the heart mom that you showed on your blog. I think those pieces of jewelry are so great for moms like you who love and care for children with heart defects. They should make a heart aunt one too. lol!
Give Ryan a kiss for me. Tell him its from his favorite aunt. I have a lot of ground to make up after Katie was entertaining him so well on sat night.

Leighann, check out People magazine this week–the one w/Elin Woods on the cover. There’s a great article about a 12 year old born w/EC.

My favorites are “You are stronger than you know” (which for the record, YOU are Leighann) and the “Strong” one which kind of looks like a heart tattoo.

  • Amy B. / February 24, 2010 / Reply

Thanks for sharing the site with us. I love all of them, but my favorites are “Strength, Courage, Wisdom” and “I hold your heart in mine.” They both speak to what I feel when I take care of our precious babies, children and adults in the CICU. Will definitely have to go back and order one!

I’m a lurking reader so this gave me a good opportunity to comment:

    1. I LOVE the one that says “Blessed” in a read heart and also love the black/white one with a heart saying “strong” under it.

    2. The new look of your blog is awesome!

    Blessings,
    Sarah

Can I only pick 2? They are all so beautiful and inspiring! I think my favorite ones are the ‘you are stronger than you know’ and the ‘strength. courage. wisdom.’ one. In a close 3rd place (because I like it too =) ) is the ‘hope’ in the blue heart. id have to say that the first 2 I listed are my favorite ones though.

We have two kiddos who have had open heart surgeries due to CHD (one has had two open heart surgeries) so I think these are extra special! I love the “I hold your heart in mine” and “Blessed” the best (but they are all adorable!).

  • Becca / February 24, 2010 / Reply

I absolutely love the Under Construction one, hands-down favourite… the CHD awareness with many little hearts all different colours is nice too. I like the symbolism – it’s about many hearts, not just any individual one or any individual child (precious though they are, of course).

  • Amy / February 24, 2010 / Reply

I like the “hope” one and the “I hold your heart in mine” one. I have been encouraged as I have followed your journey and I pray often for your sweet family. Thanks for sharing with us!

I really like I Hold your Hear In Mine and You’re stronger than you think…..They’re so pretty!

  • Patti / February 25, 2010 / Reply

They are so pretty. I really love the Hope one in the blue heart and the Heart Mom. If I won they would not be for me but the Hope one would be for a friend whose daughter is now in heaven and her name is Hope or the Heart Mom would be for a Mom at our school whose son Aidan died of CHD at 8 months old. Thank you for doing this! Patti
