I was working on Ryan’s beads of courage today and realized I needed a certain one that wasn’t in my bag. I went down to the social worker’s office and found her looking at the prettiest butterfly bead. It was very large – larger than any of Ryan’s beads, except maybe his birth bead. It was multi-colored and it’s body had an interesting pattern – which is why she was studying it.
I exclaimed, “Oh! What’s the butterfly bead for?”
Her face said it all. No words were needed. I decided today I never want the butterfly bead.
My son William has his own strand of beads, although I did not keep up with it like I should have. I would get too caught up in all that he was going through. It is a very poignant reminder to look at when you are on the other side of the fire and you WILL be there someday, the good Lord willing.

I’ll take note of that….no butterfly beads for us either….no matter how pretty they are!
What a symbol and what a moment for you today to reflect on. Praying, praying all the time!
Praying for protection and strength for Ryan tonight!

PTL for no butterfly bead. Praying for Ryan as surgery is 6 days away. Love you, Ryan and all of your precious family.
Brought tears to my eyes…love and prayers to you all…and a special one for Ryan!

I agree, I don’t want you to get the butterfly bead either.
