The kids are off school again! They’ve had just about every Monday off since Dec. 24 and several days off school for it being too cold. Not snow, but cold. The Burgh don’t play snow days. But you can get us with the -20 windchill anytime. Something about not being able to run the buses in this weather… pretty fishy excuse if you ask me. The kids are not complaining. To be honest, I’m not complaining either. I don’t mind not having to get up and out the door in the mornings. Leisure is more my style, especially when you ask if anyone wants eggs and your eldest says, “I’ll make you an omelet, mom.” and she proceeds to do just that.
Just because we’re out of school doesn’t mean we haven’t learned anything. For starters, we learned that newborn diapers are too small to contain Piper’s bowel movements. After two blowouts – the second one requiring the swing cover to be washed – we moved up to size 1. Let’s all have a moment of silence for the fact that my baby is no longer a newborn.
We also learned you should always ask a kid to go to the bathroom before suiting them up to play in the snow. Rookie mistake. I’ll give you one guess as to what he told me the moment I slipped on his last glove.
I’m glad the kids played outside so much yesterday because today we are battening down the hatches and staying indoors.
They can play with the cupcake app I permitted them to download yesterday onto the iPad because they’ve always wanted a cupcake app, puuuuhhhh-lleeeeaase, puuuhhhh-lleeeeaase, mommy! And I said yes because making cupcakes on an app is much better for my waist than making them IRL. It’s providing much entertainment as displayed by this conversation between Ryan and I at 7:30 this morning while I was nursing Piper (which reminds me of this conversation):
Ryan – What kind of cupcake do you want?
Me – Vanilla
Ryan – How about chocolate? I like chocolate for you.
Me – Okay, chocolate.
Ryan – What color icing do you want?
Me – Pink.
Ryan – How about blue? Blue is perfect. Or red…
Me – Blue is fine.
long pause while he adds icing, candy, and candles.
Ryan – It’s all done. Do you want me to eat it for you?
Maybe real cupcakes wouldn’t be that bad afterall.

Both of my children were so large at birth, that they wore size 2 diapers. Lol!! Oh my! On another note, maybe the virtual cupcakes would work better for me…
