Ainsley’s First Haircut

July 14, 2010/The Girls

I was busy unpacking and cleaning up the kitchen on Monday like a mad woman. There is so much to do after a move! The girls were busy exploring the new house and Ryan was taking a nap. On a trip upstairs to put something away, I saw this lock of hair in the hallway.

Three locks of hair lay in disarray in the upstairs hall.

I instantly froze. “Girls?” I called. No answer.
“Girls” I said again. Nothing.
I listened intently and thought I heard little girl voices coming from deep in my room.
I found them (the voices and the girls) behind closed doors in the master closet playing beauty shop.

Before:

After: (I have no idea why she collected her hair)

Natalie’s will fix. She needed a trim anyway. Ainsley’s however may not be salvageable. And her hair takes F O R E V E R to grow. It took four years for it to get as long as it was in the ‘before’ picture.

The girls tried smiling for this picture before I snapped, “No smiling. This isn’t funny.” So this is what they came up with instead.

When I was taking Ainsley to get a ‘real’ haircut, Natalie said, “She doesn’t need a haircut, I already gave her one!” To which Ainsley replied while holding up what’s left of her hair, “No, I need a haircut to undo this.”

And because I know I will get requests for the end result, here is a picture of the professional haircuts.

Alysa cut her own hair when she was 4. Do you remember? Had to have a really short hair cut because of it. I was so mad. Ainsley looks cute with her new hair cut. Sounds like you are a better mom than me. I did not use my experience as a blog entry!! I have had 2 other kids cut their hair since.

OH MY GOSH!!!! I would have panicked I think, haha. Good news is that it’s only hair and it will grow back (even if it’s slowly) and more good news is that your daughters are absolutely beautiful regardless of their hair length. 🙂

I’m with Ashley…I would have panicked! I know it’s only hair, but oh goodness. Oh me. Ummm, I know in this world of big things, this is a small thing….right?:)

Things like this always happen when ur really busy. At least they do in my world. My daughter did the same thing. She cut the front and sides of her hair. The thing with that is that she has Shirley Temple curls and so it was very interesting to fix. I will say that it did help in the long run. Her hair is getting thicker. Ainsley looks cute with her hair, and I bet it is much easier to comb, wash and do! Well that’s my positive twist for the day. Back to life.

Oh my. Well, at least she didn’t cut it down to the scalp. I’ve seen that done.

Fortunately I’ve found that for my slow-growers, their hair grew faster after age four than before.

It’s cute now, but I know that’s not what you had in mind!

I know it’s “not funny…” But, really, it is pretty funny! (when you’re not her mom!) And I think Ainsley looks ADORABLE with short hair! She just looks at least a year younger than she did before her trim. What does she think of the end result???

Seth cut his hair recently, which isn’t so dramatic on a boy, but he did cut a big chunk out of the top making it look a little weird for a while. His grows like crazy though. However, when I did take him to get his hair cut last time, I showed him the license on the wall of the shop and explained that a person MUST have one of these special papers to cut hair, or they can get in BIG trouble!!

Omgosh!!!! I would have seriously flipped my lid! For the first 8 years of my 12yo’s life every hair cut was to fix something she had done to it.

For what it’s worth, Ainsley looks super cute with short hair! It really brings out her features. 🙂

LOL so precious! I love Ainsley’s new haircut! :o)

I may be the only one but I absolutely love the new haircut. It looks so fresh and springie and fun, it looks like a little girl and I think it is ADORABLE!

Oh – I am so sorry 🙁 I too have a “slow as molasses” hair grower” – and I watch her like a hawk because of this exact scenario.

I was just remembering a post you made back in the beginning of July, where one of the girls ask if cutting their hair would give them strength like Sampson! 🙂

Ainsley looks cute with her new little bob. They sure did a number on each other, didn’t they!

Oh sweet merciful Jesus! Ainsley looks adorable, but oh my! Her hair looks very thick now, as a plus side. My niece’s hair was kind of like Ainsley’s with the slow growth but somewhere around this age, it started growing super fast.

Oh man haha. Ainsley still looks super cute with short hair. I can see why you’d be mad though!

I had to pick up my jaw from the floor! Thats my biggest fear is that Savannah will cut her hair and she’s 4 and has sholder length hair so talk about growing slow…
Wow is all I can say, she looks so much younger now. I do like the “Real” cuts…What did Henry say?

  • Anonymous / July 14, 2010 / Reply

Wow! Ainsley’s cut is quite chic! How much do you charge?

This is too funny… I think every parent has been able to tell the same story, and it never gets old.
Enjoy reading your posts – keep it up!

Im glad I have boys…. if ya gotta shave their heads they still look like boys……time to invest in itty bitty bows for Ainsley! Either way they are still beautiful though:)

  • Anonymous / July 14, 2010 / Reply

OMG! I am sure you were just sick over it…I would be too, one of my biggest fears! I was just noticing how beautiful Ainsley’s hair was at the dog show pics and how you swirled it up and clipped it! Those little stinkers! They always seem to show us moms how little control we really have, huh! She is adorable, nonetheless! I bet she never does it again.

I know I would have absolutely had a heart attack! My daughter has never experimented with cutting her hair…she has always tested what happens when she uses scissors on her clothes!

  • anazelia / July 14, 2010 / Reply

Wow, I have no words, but Ainsley’s hair cut looks really cute. And her hair may grow faster now that it was cut. I had to cut Bella’s hair to even get it to grow.

Well, I know this wasn’t funny for you at the time, but it makes a great story and it definitely made me literally laugh out loud when I saw the picture of the job they did!!! And the picture of them “not smiling” is hilarious. I hope now that you aren’t mad any more, you can appreciate the humor of the situation. And I agree, Ainsley’s haircut looks totally fabulous – in fact, I dare say it suits her better short than long!! Sending hugs and positive attitude thoughts your way. 😀

Yikes! Big change for Ainsley! But it really does look cute.

  • Linda / July 15, 2010 / Reply

Yikes! I missed this post…but just ran across it…and I have to say they sure looked repentant! Ha!

It’s just hair mama and it will grow back. (:>) But I know that was stressful for you, right in the middle of a move and all!

  • Anonymous / July 16, 2010 / Reply

Oh my word! That was quite a trim her sister gave her! I love that she collected all the hair in a bucket! She does look really cute with the short hair though! Have a great day!

I cut my own hair when I was 4, I still remember my mother’s reaction! And then “the fix” haircut. I remember people thought I was a boy for the longest time after that. It will grow back!
