The girls threw a surprise 6-month birthday party for Ryan this morning. They got out the Hello Kitty plates, napkins, and hats left over from Ainsley’s birthday party and set the table for about 10 people complete with knives, forks, and spoons. They even pulled out the girls little wooden table and set that with 6 place settings although it’s hard pressed to fit 4 children at it.
We sat down to a mid-morning snack of grapes, banana bread, yogurt and cheese sticks (the girls planned the menu). When we were almost done, Ainsley said, “Let’s open the presents!” She and Natalie (probably mostly Natalie) had gathered personal items from around the house for each person and wrapped them in gift bags. We proceeded to exchange gifts (Ainsley had Natalie’s, Natalie had mine and I had Ainsley’s). Mine had my Bible, a magazine, my make-up bag, my comb, and a tube of vaseline in it. What more could a girl ask for?
I know kids grow up fast and 6 months in the span of a lifetime is not very much, but I really cannot believe we are already at the 6 month mark. I remember when the doctors told me Ryan would have to wait until 6 months to get his Glenn and it felt very far away. Now we are staring surgery in the face (7 days to go, but who’s counting).
In Ryan’s short 6 months, he’s endured two surgeries, two heart caths, and three close calls. He’s lived four months at Children’s Hospital, and two glorious months at home. Oh, and he’s doubled his birth weight.
You can see how big he (and his tissue expanders) are getting:

Happy 6th month birthday! And the “non professional” pictures are beautiful!
Question for you: Are the spacers moving his heart to the right side of his body?
Mara
Ryan is in my heart! I pray for him and his little heart all of the time when my husband and I have our devotions.
Time is flying by. I can’t believe he is already 6 months old.
I pray the surgery will go well. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Your little girls are precious too,…and so are you.

Soooo precious! Happy 6 months little man!
Mara – I think the way Ryan is lying in his bed (on his side) makes his heart seem more off center than it really is. His heart has always been off center a little (just like everyone’s) but is not being moved by the spacers.
Happy 6 months Ryan!! What a huge milestone to reach 🙂 And I just have to ask…did they happen to put an extra tissue expander in his chin??? Goodness is he a chubba wubba 🙂 What a beautiful baby boy you have!!
