The Fabric that Forced Me to Sew

January 24, 2012/DIY

This is the way our living room looked the day we moved in. Yellow walls and cream carpet.

This is how it looks today. Creamy white walls with dark hardwood floors.

That is the fabric that forced me to learn how to thread my sewing machine.
A close-up of the fabric with the couch.
Looking at this room – which I stop to do every time I come down the stairs – is surreal. I’ve spent the last twelve years turning builder-grade linen white rooms into colorful rooms. This is the first room I’ve ever painted white….

I needed the calming effect of white to balance the curtains. I needed the curtains to liven up the couch. (I looked all over trying to find already-made curtains in stores that would match our grey-green couch but alas….) I needed the couch because it was on uber sale and fits my giant of a husband.
There’s so much still to do in this room… several refinishing projects that have to wait for warmer weather.
While waiting for Spring, I’m doing indoor projects – thus the curtains. I was so intimidated by my sewing machine… but once I figured it out, these curtains are pretty simple. I used Miss Mustard Seed’s curtain tutorial. I also used her curtain hanging template idea. If you’re making or hanging curtains any time soon. I highly recommend checking out the links above. You’ll be glad you did.
So until April… I’m enjoying the curtains.
Pertinent info:

Looks really nice Leighann. Funny how we stop to admire our work whenever we walk by a newly painted/ renovated room. I do the same 🙂 I bet all your peeps do.
