What I’d Say: Grandma Stamper

July 15, 2011/What I'd Say

Recently I called Henry’s maternal grandmother and asked her three questions. She’s in her 80s and I wanted to glean from her life experience. Here are the questions along with her answers:

Q: If you could go back in time and talk to yourself when you were in your 30s, what would you tell yourself about being a wife?
A: I would take time with my husband. I would consult my husband but be able to express my opinion. I would have a little more of an identity as an individual.

Q: What would you tell yourself about being a mother?

A: I would raise my children different. I would take time… have more fun time with them. Instead of working all the time. I had so much work to do I kept working and never took the time to have fun with them.

Q: What would you tell yourself about being a woman?

A: When I was told something I just did it. I would not live such a strict life. I would try to think for myself a little more. I would consult God more and not man.

Leighann..what gets me is that you called her and asked for her wise words! To me that is beautiful!

And yes…everything she said was so important!

This was a blessing to me as a 60 year old grandma today…and I am sure to the young mothers out there!
