Weekend Warriors

March 29, 2010/Ainsley

Several years ago Henry hiked the Great Wall of China. Since then the girls have been infatuated with things from China. Henry and I also love historical and cultural treasures so when I found out some Terra Cotta Warriors were in our area on loan I grabbed the chance to see them.

We were under strict orders not to take photos inside so we took one outside. Ainsley refused to be in the photo, but Natalie happily agreed.
I lifted this photo from a travel website to show you the dig site… In 1974, some farmers were digging a well and found life-size clay soldiers. They immediately contacted archeologists who came and investigated. Several thousand clay soldiers were found in the tomb of the First Emperor of China.
This photo from another travel site is of a kneeling warrior.
There is a replica they allow us to take photos of. Again, Ainsley was being shy.
So we tried to strong-arm her into the photo. You can see how well that worked!
Then she changed her mind.
And one with the fam.
Then I got in my head that we should round out the cultural experience with some Chinese food… well, some Americanized Chinese food. And let me be the first one to tell you, if you see this sign in downtown DC
KEEP WALKING!
It was hands-down the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. And quite possibly the worst food of all time. However, I was pleased when Natalie identified the item in this wall-hanging. The question was, “What is hanging on the wall?” Ainsley said, “CHINA!” Natalie correctly said, “Money!”
At least the company was good.

We ended the adventure by waiting for daddy to go retrieve the car.
At home I set about getting the girls in bed thinking the excitement from the night was over. Ainsley had other plans. She came downstairs complaining of an upset stomach. It had to be the food. I got her some gingerale, which she refused, so switched to water. I also grabbed her a tums. As she was chewing the tums she started gagging and then vomiting. I should mention at this point the girls were in Henry’s and my bed. Agh! Thank God I invested in a waterproof mattress pad when Ainsley was potty training. Ains vomited several times before falling asleep peacefully on a mat on the bathroom floor. She said, “Mommy, can I sleep in here for a long time… like until morning.”
Natalie was cute while this was all going on. When Ainsley first started vomiting in the bed beside her she jumped from the bed and literally started running circles around the room and screaming at the top of her lungs. Meanwhile I’m yelling, Natalie get a trash can since I did what any other sane mother would do and held out my hands to catch the puke. YUK!
Then while Ainsley was falling asleep on the bathroom floor Natalie came in and said, “Mom, you don’t have to keep your bedroom door open. If Ainsley starts to throw up again I’ll just run in and help her. You don’t have to worry about it.”
Oh yes, and one more quote from the evening. While getting a bath after the first episode Ainsley said, “I threw up just like Taurus.” That is another story for another time, but very funny if you know why she said it.
How was your weekend?

Poor Ainsley! Hope she is feeling better. This weekend we celebrated Alysa’s birthday. It was a busy but good weekend.
    Love you all.

haha fun times of puke! My fav line of hers is when she says “Mommy can I sleep on the bathroom floor…like until morning?” hope she’s feeling better and glad you all had a good time! this weekend I worked then went on a shopping spree so in response to your last post of what’s new your closet, I bought cute summer dresses :o)

Aww Poor thing. Where is Ryan? We had a horrible stomach bug a couple of weeks ago. We did not get it all at the same time, every one was on their own week, so it took 4 weeks to go through our house yuk yuk! (Hannah did not get it thankfully)

This weekend I started making bean bags for the girls. My second attempt at sewing, you know how the first episode went (ya know the nice soft blocks that I was going to send you), yeah well I thought a flat shape would be easier. 🙂 I am hoping to get them done by Easter.

Your little trip sounded like it was a lot of fun. I LOVE history! Poor Aisley I sure hope she feels better fast. Sounds like we had identical nights. We had all just gotten to sleep when I heard Savannah start to shreik, and I knew it was her “Puke” cry, thowing up just freaks her out so much. Hubby was no help as he is a sympothy(sp) barfer which annoyed me last night, as he could have bathed the sobbing child while I did clean up….She got up again and the scean was repeatd again. This morning hubby is under the weather…I pray it stops at Mark…

My mother LOVES to go “I used to catch your puke in my hands!”

You can use that line for years now with Ains! Poor baby, hope she’s on the mend!

Strollers are prohibited in the exhibit so we arranged for Ryan to stay home with a nurse.

Such a cool exhibit huh? Went a few weeks ago on a private tour.

Boooo to noo strollers! But it was probably nice to get a break. 🙂 I wanted to take the girls to see this but didn’t realize it closed at the end of the month. I was hoping to do it in September for school next year. I am hoping they will maybe extend it..

We don’t eat out often, maybe once a month…if that, really!
It is so expensive and then if it isn’t good, or worse makes you sick….I just can’t stand the cost and the risk/unknown, even though it means I miss out and we come across as freaks. But the experience you had this weekend with that cafe rates as one of my top 10 nightmares….one that I can control by eating at home. Sad.

It was fun to see the photos of your cultural outing, what an amazing opportunity, especially for the girls.
