Ryan Update

July 29, 2009/Ryan

Ryan moved into the CICU early this morning. He was coughing a lot causing his sats to go down a bit so the team put him on high flow oxygen (3 liters or over is considered high flow. To be on high flow, you have to be in the ICU). And he seems like he is working hard to breathe. The team is afraid he has an infection.

That was the message I received when I picked up my phone to call Ryan’s nurse to see if he was coming home today.   I called the CICU fellow and told him Ryan coughs a lot due to his reflux and then will work hard to catch up with himself.
So, the moral of the story is, Ryan is in the CICU and will not be coming home today. The team is going to assess him for an infection and also watch him to see if this is really just his reflux. They will play around with his feeds to see if they can get him more comfortable and keep his sats above 70.

Bless you all. Praying for the docs – gentle hands, wise and creative thinking, attention to details – and for each of you.
